A Blanc de Chine Libation Cup. Of rhinoceros horn form on one side with a tiger seated below flowering prunus whilst looking up at a Dragon. The other with a deer below pine and a stork. Chinese 18thC. Height 7.2 cm. Length 13.7 cm. Condition: there is a shallow glaze flake 0.4 cm and 0.3 cm to the rim (See last image) and a small flake in the foot.

A well-carved nephrite jade plaque depicting a coiled, sinuous dragon paired with a phoenix and spiral-incised "bi" disc. The phoenix and "bi" disc have been covered with a gold lacuer gilding. Intricate, flowing spiral decoration covers the dragon's body and the disc. The piece measures 3-3/4" end to end and is, as best I can tell, made entirely without the use of modern cutting tools. An early Arita porcelain dish, Kakiemon, 17th Century, circa 1655~1670.

The centre of the dish with a table display of bonsai-like foliage. The curved cavetto with plant-filled lozenges against a blue ground.

The mark within the foot-rim was used at the Chokichidani kiln and the Old Kakiemon kiln in the period 1655 ~ 1670’s.

Dishes with similar designs are to found in the catalogue of the Shibata Collection, Kyushu Ceramic Museum.

An Arita Export porcelain dish decorated with a design based on a Ming Chinese Kraak plate. A pair of Ho-o birds amongst flowers and bursting pomegranates. Arita, circa 1690 - 1720. A similar dish is illustrated in the Shibata Collection, Kyushu Ceramic Museum, item 2495.

The border pattern shows a striking similarity to that used for V.O.C. orders produced at the Hikeoba and Sarugawa kilns. Circa 1680.

A Chinese porcelain baluster shaped vase (without its original cover) painted in under glaze blue in early 18th Century style with birds and flowers (including stylized peony and lotus). This is one of the most beautiful and early clubs that I have handled in more than forty years. I am conservatively dating it to the 19th century, without being more specific, although I believe it could well (and accurately) be described as early in the century. This is a Japanese antique indigo dy sakiori noragi hanten of paper, Hemp, cotton. It is an item from the Edo to Meiji era. This item was made in Sado region of Japan. Although just a fragment, the imagery is outstanding in this substantial gray pottery piece. Molded and carved, it depicts two seated chieftains facing one another over a table (?) resting on a skull. The imagery is crisp and clear. The piece measures 6" X 2-5/8", while the image itself is 4" in width by 1-3/4". Dating to the 5th - 8th century AD.

A beautifully modeled white ware spouted ewer complete with original top. Elegant and intact, this piece measures 9-1/2" in height, with the top in place. The color is difficult to capture accurately, as there is the faintest hint of pale celadon color in the glaze. No repairs or restoration, no flaking of the glaze. A beautiful example of this early ware.
