This Japanese red lacquered wooden serving platter or tray is 13 inches in diameter. It is carved as a bream, which is the Japanese fish symbol for the "bounty of the sea". There are several layers of different colors of red lacquer which heighten the fluid appearence of the fish. The surface is slightly dulled with use and age, the charger is in wonderful condition.

Everything is drawn by the hand. There are several small holes in a thin stain and the skirt. However, the state is overall good. This is a richly colored hand dyed cotton antique American Folk Art floral hooked rug in shades of cream, beige, brown, gray and red comprising a centered diamond with scattered flowers and leaves. The decoration of a Dragon is at all rare to find on Ming Dynasty Minyao blue and white pieces. Still much rarer to find is such a Dragon bowl in a large and perfect condition like it is this bowl. Ming Jiajing period ( 1522 - 1566 ) Diameter : 17,9 cm. Condition : Perfect - there is just some very minute glaze fritting to the rim, but this is without a magnifying glass nearly invisible and absolutely normal for pieces of that period.
