18C Chinese domed jade plaque carved in low relief with Buddhist auspicious symbols. Color is a whitish pale celadon. It is carved very, very thin with two sets of small holes to the back edge. This is an authentic example from the Qijia culture, dating to 2100-1600 BCE, of a well-known type of ritual axe, known as a "Yue." It measures 4" in length and 3-3/8" at its widest point (10cm X 8.5cm). This is a fragment from a Tibetan gilt copper mandorla, one of the side pieces that would have surrounded the central statue/figure. It measures 9-1/2" in height and is 3" at its widest point. A scarce specimen of a Danish Neolithic Axe with a pointed neck, dating to 3500-2500 BC.

This type of axe were one of the early developments from the from the primitive core axes of the hunters and gatherers. It is found alongside the thinbutted axes, and most finds are in the eastern parts of Denmark.

This specimen is unpolished, could be an unfinished 'prework'.

Here's a pair of Thinbutted Danish Neolithic Axes dating to late 4th mill. BC.

Thinbutted axes were the preferred tool for clearing land, as the Neolithic civilisation came in the need of fields for cultivation.

Both axes in this pair are nice specimens from this development, and have probably contributed to gaining new ground for early Danish agriculture.

The axes measure 14 & 15 cm each, (c. 6 inches) but it is not unlikely that they were larger originally. ...

Rare lacquered bronze fibula inlaid with yellow metal nails which seems to be gold because it does not oxidize. The construction of this jewel is special, in fact the bronze base was cast and then pierced with thousands of holes in which tiny nails were fixed, welded or perhaps simply forced in. Then the whole was covered with brown lacquer. This technique gives a solidity that has allowed this fibula to stand the test of time, indeed the lacquer split by retraction but it remained in place firm...

Interesting provincial rendering of the famous depictions of the 1st. millenium in the near east, of the great king spearing a Lion. The cabinet is dark brown lacquer possibly over-painted. There are mother of pearl inlay of very old Chinese calligraphy characters on the doors and drawer front... with no translation available. There is a copper/bronze decorative latch on the cabinet doors. This cabinet would have been used in a prayer niche and would have held religious objects 32 x 13 x 7 inches.

Antique Japanese large 2-section storage tansu for an herbal merchant. Made of hinoki (Japanese cypress) wood, beautifully worn and patinated from years of use. The top section has a large compartment opened by two sliding panels and with two interior shelves. The bottom section has 38 drawers for storage of various herbs and wares. Every drawer has an iron hirute-shaped pull.

An oval and domed porcelain plaque with enamelled flowers in a gilt and Bleu Céleste framework. The ”heavenly blue” colour was a speciality for Sevres in the 18th century and revived in the 19th during the reign of Napoléon III. The gilt flower wreath is tooled, to show the texture of the little flower petals, and the large flower motif is excellently painted.
