Scruffy looking old Japanese warrior doll (musha ningyo). This doll is not so tall (11 1/2" tall) but heavily padded, solid and quite heavy. When we acquired this doll, his hair was already replaced once and most of it was; one side is painted in black. Old glass eyes. The checker design (ichimatsu design) on his clothes is very similar to "Enshu-donsu", one of the famous fabrics used for tea ceremonies in the Edo period. 11 1/2" high x 11" wide x 12" deep. Ancient Chinese small jade cloud form object. A carved coil of green jade with mottled orange opaque area. Likely a burial or ceremonial artifact. Hongshan culture was located in the Liao river basin in northeastern China.

Pair of Japanese bronze hanging temple lanterns. High level of detail of each section of the lantern form the base to the lotus peddles around the roof edge. Floral designer intertwine creating interesting detail. Complete with original hardware . Pair of hinged doors unlock an open to give access into each lantern. Original patina consistent with age.

Japanese Mother of Pearl and Bone inlaid Lacquer Panel of Tea Ceremony picture on black Lacquer wooden panel, Ca. Meiji period, 1880's, 26" high, 16 1/4" wide, 3/4" depth, two(2) ladies preparing traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony, silver geometric design border on black Lacquered panel inside black lacquered frame. There are some very small lacquer losses around the frame, shows very thin separation on wood panel in the back, but does not show in front, stains on the lady's hair.

Lovely 3-tier chintz cake stand in a unknown pattern. The bottom of each piece is marked in blue/green "B/Royal Tudor Ware/Barker Bros. L'td/England" along with a crown. The stem is brass. The whole stand is approximately 12-1/2" tall. The plates are approximately 10", 8" and 6" in diameter. Mint condition--even the gilding around the edges of the plates. Ca. 1920's.

19th century decent size Chinese export silver spoon with engraved decoration of blooming flowers. Excellent crisp work, in great condition, stamped with a Chinese hallmark on the back of the stem. Length 7.25 inches, weight 33.4 grams.

ROCKFORD WATCH Co. 18 Size, Hunting Model 15j Circa: 1884. Model 3, 15 jewels, full plate gilt, lever set, serial No. 229,547. This Rockford Watch is signed on the dial with a special script and has the original Flour-Da-Lee fancy black hands. The crystal is very rare because of how thick it is with beveled edges. The single sunk dial is singed in a special script and has a couple of hairlines which do not seem to distract. Scarce Rockfor running watch. THIS IS A FINE COLLECTIBLE...

19th century netsuke carved as a fox sitting on a base with 4-character seal bottom and scenes with lobsters and shells on the sides. This particular fox represents Inari - the benevolent and well disposed creature, being the messenger of the God of rice and harvest, as opposed to the other foxes, which in Japan are generally believed to be evil creatures. Enlargement 1 shows the seal flipped left to right presenting what the imprint of the seal will look like...

Six compartments inrô in black, gold and silver lacquer, depicting cranes in a landscape. The inside is in nashi-ji lacquer. Signed Kajikawa underneath.

Kajikawa was one of the most talented families of lacquer artists, specializing in inrô. They worked for the Tokugawa shogunate from the 17th to the 19th century. It is almost impossible to assign any individual pieces to the different members of this family. They often used encrustations of metal or nacre...

This porcelain tea cup and saucer was produced in England by Coalport between 1805 and 1810. The saucer measures 5 1/2 inches in diameter and it is 1 1/8 inches deep. The cup is 2 1/8 inches high and the diameter of the opening is 3 3/8 inches. Colorful stripes and stylized flowers are accented by elaborate gilding. The pattern is eye opening. An ancient Egyptian Scaraboid, more than 2,300 years old, from the famous Mitry collection (see our Homepage). It is 3/8” long (9 mm) and made of steatite, an easy-to-carve stone that hardens when heated. Scarabs empowered life and resurrection and were often placed under mummy wrappings to protect the body and to help it resurrect. This Scarab comes in a jewelry display cup.

This is a rare example of a Puddingstone, not only because of its form, but also, because of the color, shape, and texture of the particles that make up the stone.

A bottle of similar form may be found in Steven's 'The Collector's book of Snuff Bottles" #618, minus the mask handles, which he dates to late 18th, early 19th centuries...
