An elegant small 14K gold enameled flower pin featuring a pair of white four-leaf clovers with green veining. Each flower is centered with a seed pearl. During the Victorian era, flowers were used to symbolize specific sentiments, and the white clover meant “think of me.” Small pins such as this were often given as presents to new brides and are sometimes called honeymoon pins. The back of the pin is stamped with Hammerman’s mark and 14K.

A delightful 14K yellow gold money clip in the form of a wishbone. The back of the clip is marked "14K" and has an unidentified maker's mark. It is interesting to note that we've seen this exact money clip with a Cartier hallmark. Leading houses such as Cartier and Tiffany often bought gold objects such as money clips and cufflinks from the better manufacturing jewelers in the New York and Newark area.

An elegant pair of 19K yellow gold "Contas de Viana" earclips. The domes are covered with concentric circles of ropetwist appliques in the ancient Etruscan style. The clips are stamped with older Portuguese hallmarks for 19K.

Viana beads were modeled on ancient Etruscan jewels found in archaeological sites in Portugal. The circular patterns of filigree and granulation were thought to resemble the eyes of a partridge, bringing luck and protection...

A rare early, large figural sterling silver pendant by Sam Kramer. Looks like an abstract man, maybe even a pirate. Measures 3 3/4" long and 2 3/4" wide. Signed with an impressed mushroom on the front of his leg. Heavy and substantial. Fine example of his work.

Circa 1940's, here is a superb pin produced by Chato Castillo. Chato Castillo apprenticed with Matilde Poulat. In the Davis/Pack book "Mexican Jewelry", it's noted that Chato's pieces are all one of a kind. He left William Spratling's Taller de Las Delicias in 1939 to help his brothers start Los Castillo. Many of his early designs were also used as prototypes for pieces later produced by Los Castillo. Measuring 5" tall, 2 1/8" wide, this pin is a sight to behold...

Even in Bille Hougart’s seminal work on hallmarks and makers there is minimal information about him - namely, two or three examples of the way his jewelry is hallmarked and the photos are really difficult to read...

It is a magnificent ring, reminiscent of the work of Fred Davis and Abraham Paz. The amethyst is a gorgeous old stone with quartz marbling, natural inclusions, and lots of character. A particularly fine gentleman’s ring in 14K yellow gold, the top set with alternating round cut rubies and brilliant round cut diamonds in star settings. Gypsy-set rings were first popular in the Victorian era, but reappeared in the 1930s and 40s, sometimes with the addition of star settings. The rubies are natural, without evidence of treatment, and are color-graded as medium dark slightly brownish strongly purplish-red (stpR 6/2) and clarity-graded as eye-clean. The diamonds are H/VS1...

Circa 1940-1945, here is a superb hand-wrought necklace produced by Ana María Nünez de Brilanti, whose work is known as "Victoria". Brilanti opened her shop in Taxco in 1940, and named her shop Plateria Victoria, after her daughter. Brilanti is well known for her original designs and excellent craftsmanship, and this necklace is one of her earliest works. It's a book-piece design, shown on page 103 in "William Spratling and the Mexican Silver Renaissance", and referred to as "Curling Feathers"...

Outstanding vintage Los Ballesteros Mexican bracelet in solid sterling silver. Marked with the Los Ballesteros mark, also marked HECHO EN MEXICO, STERLING 925, and with design number 39. Circa 1930's, this Fred Davis pin is very striking, with a design which I've not seen previously. The craftsmanship is superb with exquisite repoussé silver work. Measures 2 11/16" tall, 2" wide. Weight is 25.3 grams. Signed and hallmarked with a conjoined FD Made in Mexico Silver. In excellent vintage condition. Pin closes with a simple early spiral C clasp, and is very secure.

This large Fred Davis amethyst brooch was produced 1930's - early 40's. Measuring 4 1/2" long, 2 3/16" wide, it features a gorgeous hand-carved amethyst tulip. Pin closes with a roller.
