A picture is worth a thousand words, they say, and in preparing to offer this fantastic find of mine, I am putting my trust in popular wisdom. When one has been dealing in vintage Mexican silver jewelry for as long a time as I have, one tends to hear that little "devil" in one's ear louder and louder, claiming that there is nothing new or exciting left to be encountered. Thankfully though, life and the old maestros of Taxco still keep some aces hidden up their sleeve...

Elegant oriental figure with gorgeous enamel in ten different colors! Sterling. From the 1930's of 40's. Very three dimensional and heavy. 3 1/2" long, 1 5/8" wide.

A classic design that gives a tailored look to this 18Kt yellow gold men’s ring which is centered by an approximately 0.30 Ct brilliant cut diamond. The diamond is flanked by a round faceted natural blue sapphire on either side. The approximate total weight of the two sapphires is 0.60Ct. The ring is size 9 but it can easily be sized.

A beautifully executed pin that features a bezel-mounted oval dyed green chalcedony or chrysoprase, surrounded by a layer of leafy flowers and berries. This layer is composed of cast pieces individually applied to a serpentine wirework frame reminiscent of late arts and crafts design; dating would be 1930s or 1940s. The pin has a lovely patina from age and the stone retains its highly polished surface, exhibiting hardly any wear. The rollover clasp is very secure...

A wonderful vintage bracelet and matching pair of screw back earrings from Taxco by Victoria ~ Ana Maria Nunez de Brilanti in her 'Double Shadowbox Angel' design.

The bracelet measures 7 3/4" long by 1 1/8" wide. It closes by inserting a pin through interlocking cylinders. The bracelet is marked on the back Victoria, Taxco, Mexico, Sterling, and Style #53. This is the heavier and wider version of the bracelet.

Earrings drop down about 1". They measure 3/4" across...

Excellent, elegant circa 1940s necklace by William Spratling, arguably the most important name in Mexican Silver. Heavy for it's size, this solid liquid silver necklace is constructed of hollow silver bars over seven silver chains of variying lengths. This design is understated, and extremely rare. The shortest chain measures just under 15" in length. The necklace is authentic and bears Spratling's circa 1940s stamp. Excellent vintage condition.

This linked handmade silver bracelet features a series of hammered, oxidized panels with scalloped edges. The applied decoration consists of leaves and stylized vines in a pinwheel pattern, reminiscent of late arts and crafts design; the pinwheel motif is repeated on the four-lobed connecting links. Being offered is a rare circa 1940 sterling silver and jade bracelet by Fred Davis of Taxco, Mexico. Early piece by one of the pioneers of the premiere Taxco Silver ateliers. This traditional Miao Chinese Minority hair pin would have been worn by young woman for festival. The butterfly motif is in reference to the Miao creation myth. The hair pin is 5 inches long.

A vintage 830 silver storyteller bracelet by David Andersen, Norway. Made up of alternating panels with what looks like a large lizard and a person on horseback yielding a sword and shield. There is some oxidation to the background for a contrasting effect.

Measures 7 1/4" long and just under an inch wide. Signed with the scales mark and 830S for the silver content on the back of the clasp.

We are offering today a signed Hector Aguilar Symbols bracelet. When you hold this bracelet, first you will take a double take of how it is made. In an oval shape it opens not from the middle back of the piece but from an off center side. In doing so Aguilar was able to fit 5 symbols in the space allowed. A lovely sterling bracelet composed of applied leaves, berries and curled stems on sterling wire frames, reminiscent of the contemporary Danish style. The large fold-over clasp is also handmade and in excellent condition; it is stamped sterling. There is no maker’s mark. This sterling silver and rosewood pin was designed and in the 1940's by American and Taxco, Mexico artist William Spratling. Brooch measures 2 1/4" X 2". Alovely Brooch by the famous Taxco Silver Artist Hector Aguilar features two stylized flower blossoms along with a curved leaf on curving stems. Crafted in Aguilars favored 940 silver which give the silver a lovely rich patina. It measures 3" wide by 3 1/2" long and weigh 18.6 grams. Hallmarked Taxco, HA, 940. Light age related wear and tarnish a secure pin clasp. A lovely piece.

Early hand-made sterling and jade ring by Sam Kramer, NYC, c.1948. The front measures 3/4" by 1/2" by 1/8" thick and the band is 5/16" wide. Made of heavy gauge silver with a small jade cabochon is is size 6 1/4 or 6 3/4 depending on which end is worn up. Pictured in the book "Mexican Silver Masters" by Penny Morrill on page 40, plate I-55 is this lovely and unique bracelet by Hector Aguilar. Circa 1945-1950 it features a deep purple oval Amethyst cabochon stone on the clasp with fancy and ornate silver wire links. It measures 7 1/2" long by 3/4" at the widest and weighs 42.3 grams. The repousse work is outstanding on this design 543 Los Castillo bracelet. It is 2 inches tall with a hook closure. The old linear hallmark and the design itself shows that this was the work of Margot Van Voorhies when married to Antonio Castillo. Together they formed the taller Los Castillo. The links are rounded to fit the arm perfectly and are 6.75 inches long. An outstanding bracelet to add to a collectors wardrobe. It will be noticed by all that gaze upon it.
