This charming study of a young girl intent on cutting out paper dolls is reminiscent of works by Berthe Morisot, Mary Cassatt and Pierre-Auguste Renoir (his earlier works).
She is beautifully captured with her rosebud lips, her hair tied up in a bow, a lacy pinafore over her navy dress and stockinged legs ...
From our Southeast Asia Collection, a fine original Burmese watercolor of a solitary young monk at prayer. From memory we think the scene depicts one of the many alcoves at the massive Ananda Temple complex in Pagan, though in all candor we cannot be entirely certain. In any event, it is a stirring and highly evocative portrayal which in its simplicity, captures a deep and genuine sense of reverence and serenity...
Well designed and crafted gilt bronze sculpture of a young girl in standing position holding a flower, late 19th century era, signed Rome; F. Julian to the base. Size: Figure alone stands 7 inches long and 9-1/2 inches including marble base. Good condition, no issues noted.
A signed Hyacinthe Mercier miniature portrait, painted on natural wafer. The beautifully rendered sitter is a pleasant looking woman wearing a lace bonnet with lavender and light blue bows, and a dark blue robe or gown. "Mercier 1824" in script along the right side.
The painting is in excellent condition, with some rough edges which do not show while the piece is in its period bronze frame. Sight size is 2 3/8" by 1 7/8", with a frame size of 2 3/4" by 2 1/4"...
CLEMENT METIVIER ( 1910-1996; A CANADIAN-AMERICAN Artist. "AUTUMN IN THE HILLS", Oil on Masonite. Signed lower right. Metvier was born in Canada, worked in the New England area, and in 1946, moved to California where he remained until his death. He was known as a California painter. “He was a highly skilled plein air painter, his works are rare” (Edna Hughes: Artists in California.) Dimension; 16" x 19"; framed; 20.5" x 24.5". Excellent condition.

A lovely pair of oil on panel paintings c1900 by Charles MacDonald Manly (Canadian, 1855-1924) ARCA, OSA. Born in England, he came to Canada at an early age. He returned to Europe to study at the Metropolitan School of Art, Dublin (1881-84). On his return to Canada, he became a founding member of the Toronto Arts Students League. He was an active member of the ARCA (Royal Canadian Academy of Art) and the OSA (Ontario Society of Artists, president in 1903)...
A charming and well limned naive miniature portrait painting on organic wafer. The sitter is a nice-looking young man attired in a black coat with brass buttons and the lapels with blue embellishment. Hi has a white shirt and stock, a high collar, and a yellowish gray vest. Housed in a cast foliate case with a rear glazed aperture containing cross-braided plaits of hair.
Condition is excellent, with no cracks, bowing, paint loss, etc. The case condition is also excellent...
Abraham Rosenthal (Russian/American, 1886-1963) oil on artist board painting of Rockport Harbor. Size: 16 inches x 20 inches. Abraham Rosenthal was a Russian born, American painter who lived in New York and Rockport, Massachusetts. He studied at the Art Students League, Cooper's Union, and was a student of Emile A. Gruppe. He was a member of the Rockport Art Association. Condition is excellent; offered in a gilt wood frame. Signed lower right.
Paul B. Pascal (French, 1832-1903) gouache on paper landscape of Arabs in the Sahara Desert with pyramids and ruined temple. Dated 1902. Size: 9.5 inches x 17 inches (sight). Condition: some light scratches in sky and a one and a half inch tear at the right margin (see photo detail.) Paul Pascal was an artist who specialized in Orientalist paintings. He worked almost exclusively in gouache and watercolor, and his favorite subjects were the nomadic Arabs of north Africa...

The tract extends parallel with and between Conduit Road and the Potomac. It is divided by the Washington Railway and Electric Company, which ran from Georgetown to Glen Echo for a 5 cent fare...
