Watercolor on paper landscape, 10 1/2" by 7" inside the early-style gold mat, 18 1/2" by 14 1/2" as framed, signed in blue at lower right "J.A. HANCOX". No listings were found for this artist, but the work appears certainly to be of English origin. There is fairly heavy foxing especially at top in the sky, and a small bar of lighter paper there. It appears that the artist signed in lower right corner and then tried to rub it out there before re-signing it two inches higher up.

The watercolor is unsigned, 6" by 8 1/2", 10" by 13" as simply framed, the scene tall forest trees and distant mountains; there is either a stream or pathway in the foreground. I'd think it has some age, but probably not before about 1970. The artist was talented, and this will decorate a small wall nicely.

A late 19th century small oil on artist board, unsigned, the subject a quiet glen with small waterfall and pond or creek in a forest. The work measures 14 1/2" by 9 1/2" in likely the original gold frame (now with a missing area at top right corner). A cleaning would work wonders. Old Kansas City framer's label and art board shows a Chicago origin.

Old American landscape with trees framing a lake, 8" by 10", 12" by 13 3/4" in the gold frame, signed at lower right with name "H. Wolosky". The oil on board work probably dates to the 1920's or 1930's. I do not see an obvious artist name that I could link to this piece. A Cooper Union (New York City) old circular label remains affixed to the back of the board. Condition is vintage good, no problems.

A small (8 1/2" by 10 3/4" framed) oil on board painting of a white farmhouse with red chimney, red barn and classic windmill at center, circa 1900, signed faintly at lower right "A Sowell" or similar. The hand is primitive, charmingly naive; the scene could be nearly anywhere in the central or eastern United States, most likely the Midwest, Plains or east. A painting which brings on a peaceful feeling in the viewer, as it harkens back to simpler times.

It is signed "Geraldine" at lower right, and on reverse is the inscription "To Dad Happy Anniversary from Mom". The painter was talented but no doubt still an amateur. This is a pleasant decorative painting that is ready to hang on the wall.

Watercolor on quality paper, 7 3/4" by 11", 10 1/4" by 13 3/4" as framed, the subject the famous and iconic symbol of the Santa Fe and Taos region of northern New Mexico, the sanctuary near the town of Chimayo. The art is titled at lower left margin and dated there 2004, and signed "Benke" or similar at lower right. Condition is excellent. A decorative little item if you're looking for something that reminds you of your trip to that scenic and history-filled region of the country.

Oil on canvas painting, unsigned, 24" by 12", in pinkish wood strip framing. The colors of the painting could be described as creamy light pink with some green. The work might have some age as it appears that "12-81" is written on the stretcher, possibly a date; and olden-days "$2.03" price is stamped on inside of the frame. There is a three-dimensional relief in places, where the artist spread the paint. No varnish, dull surface.

Watercolor painting of yellow roses on their prickly stems, 11" by 7 3/4" (16 1/2" by 12 3/4" framed), unsigned, circa late 19th century or early 20th. There is an old framer's label on the reverse backing from Boston. Condition is good, mat should be replaced, as well as old-style acidic old sawn wood backing boards. The mat edges did leave browning to mark their presence but that would be hidden completely by a new mat.

Unsigned watercolor landscape painting, late 19th century American origin, the subject a chilly shoreline including snow-covered shacks, two figures, and a small overturned boat in winter storage, measuring 11" by 21" inside the mat (16" by 25" as framed). Naive painting of peasant figures in traditional clothing, sheep, llamas, birds and snow-capped mountains, signed at lower left by artist Inez Zodqui and titled "ECUADOR" at lower center. The small painting measures only 6" by 8" but there is a lot going on in this small space. The primitive art style is popular with tourists to the region. Condition is excellent. Frame if you wish or hang as-is.

Etching on paper, 16 1/4" by 14 1/4", with narrow metal framing, pencil signed at lower right by artist, who, if I read correctly the Russian on the reverse, is one VLADIMIR KOSTROMIN. An old original label on reverse has a 1978 date, so I would imagine the print dates to the late 1970's. The ink is a greenish black. Moisture has compromised the margins and mold stained and rippled them; reframing would help exclude that. Some photos show reflections and overstate some slight discolorations ...

This work needs some TLC, due to a large rip, unstable and missing paint, and grime......a vintage late 19th century/early 20th century work on canvas, 18" by 30", unframed, apparently unsigned, the subject one of the volcanoes of the Pacific Northwest. The painting should be saved for posterity, but for that to happen, it will require relining, cleaning and inpainting by a professional restorer. If you are a restorer yourself, this would be an ideal acquisition.
