An unframed oil on canvas painting of a colonial Latin American square surrounded by tile-roofed buildings, a snow-capped volcano in the center distance, signed at lower right "Quishpe" and dated there 2009. Online research shows that name to be most commonly found in Ecuador, but the artist is J. COSME QUISHPE of Cuzco, contemporary South American artist educated at the Ecole de Cuzco Contemporaine. A very interesting etching of what appears to be Paris' Montmartre section, (the windmill a famous feature, painted by many artists), signed in pencil in the lower right margin "B. Vilard". Surprisingly I do not see a listing for an artist by this name---could possibly be a pen name.. The work measures 8 1/2" by 11" inside the mat and 13 3/4" by 16 1/4" framed. It is very clean and fresh, despite likely dating to the first half of the 20th century. Note the subtle blue/brown colors.

(Latin abbreviation commonly used in 19th century by artists---means "del delineavit" (he/she drew it) Florence". This drawing possibly by a youngster is a true survivor, coming up on two centuries of age. It is in good condition with corners glued to a backing sheet, and lower right corner is missing...

It is signed at lower right (difficult to decipher) and remaining on the old mat is a printed label "Water Original Hand Painting on Satin by O. Vorgang". "French Girl" is also written on the back of the card to which the satin is laid (as well as some other old handwriting)...

Etching, 4 3/4" by 6 5/8" inside the mat, 10" by 12 1/2" in simple black strip frame, titled in pencil at left margin "A Bermuda Lane" and signed in margin in pencil at lower right by artist RAY ALLEN. I do not see a listing for an artist of this name. The work likely dates to about the 1950's I would think, and is probably still in its original frame. The impression is strong, with a distinct plate mark. Disregard false yellow colors in some of the photos, which are an effect of the camera...

A framed PAIR of identically framed color prints, each 11 1/2" by 15 1/4" as framed, the subjects of both the famous bookstalls by the Seine in Paris, Notre Dame cathedral in the distance. Each is pencil numbered at lower left out of editions of 5000, and signed at lower right in pencil, by the noted French 20th century impressionist painter CHARLES BLONDIN (1913-1991)...
