Everyone seems to love Paris, a city which has inspired and continues to inspire much art. This pair of watercolors, one of the elegant and timeless Place Vendome, the other the famed "Le Dome" cafe of Montparnasse, are signed by artist "Hrobel". This is a fine pastel of a pair of dogs---Labradors possibly---(I welcome input from dog lovers)--one named at bottom "Lozi", the other, "Pamuzi", the drawing signed at lower left with what appears as "Janaa Olsen" or "Janaa Owen" or similar, and dated there 1988. Done in 1992, Poem 5 is a very stylized take on the kanji for woman女. Maki did many, many versions of woman. All of them are interesting, most of them striking. To me, this dramatic rendering strays the furthest from the actual character. Daniel Tretiak called this a Square Woman. This was done using the silkscreen process; it is not an embossed woodblock print. It measures 11.5in x 11.5 in.
