This is a wood engraving print titled "Les Visages", by the important French artist GEORGES ROUAULT (1871-1958). The print measures 7" by 8 3/4" inside the mat (13 3/4" by 15 1/2" as framed). I believe that this is from the edition published at a later date (circa 1960's) by the Collectors' Guild of New York; the print is dated in the plate 1927, and signed in the plate at lower right. The condition is very good with even very light toning of the paper...

A vintage (mid century) illustration of a pink orchid blossom, the background airbrush and the flower hand painted, 14 1/2" by 14 1/2" inside the attractive double mat, the piece 22 1/2" by 22 1/2" as framed in silvery complementary framing, signed at lower right by artist "Childs". An old unframed watercolor of an Asiatic-looking man in traditional clothing, with pencil writing in Russian at right including the date 19.II.1920. A Russian-speaker informs me that there is no name of an artist, but that the subject is identified as a Buryat. I take from online information: "The Buryat people are descended from various Siberian and Mongol peoples that inhabited the Lake Baikal Region including Kurykans, who are also the ancestors of the Siberian Turkic speaking Yakuts...

Acquired as one of a number of works by late Bozeman, Montana artist MARION "MAL" LEWIS (1925-2010), this is a fine collage work, undated, titled "Moonlit Night" on original sticker, not framed (just matted), likely from late in the artist's life. While traveling through Montana I came upon a group of mostly collage, abstract works by this artist, though there is at least one non-abstract work, a New Mexico drawing, that I will be listing. This measures 10" by 18 3/4" inside the present mat...

A familiar scene that brings back fond memories to travelers who have experienced the pleasures of browsing the famous bouquiniste bookstalls along the Seine River in the heart of Paris---Notre Dame dominates the background, while a lively scene transpires, with a yellow-shirted artist and his easel at left, and a mother and her impatient young child at right, leafy trees framing the activity. The work is on canvas and measures 9" by 10 3/4" (15" by 16 1/2" framed)...

Old ink and watercolor drawing of early 19th century men and a boy pictured in an English interior, executed probably early years of the 20th century, signed "O. Krause" and also bearing the word "Copy", 6 1/2" by 6" inside the opening in black glass eglomise style "mat", 10 1/4" by 9" as it was originally framed. Oil on canvasboard painting of a white ranch house in a rugged, semi-arid setting, signed at lower right by artist H. D. SMYTHE and dated 1960. Research to date of this artist name has not been productive. The 20" by 24" work (26" by 30" in wood frame) has acquired some general soiling and light abrasions in a few places. An interesting Mid-Century abstract on paper, 12" by 16" inside the mat, 18 3/4" by 23" framed, unsigned. The work could well date to the 1960's, the paper thin and slightly browned. I am not clear on the type of paint used; it is not simple watercolor. Could be a mix of some sort; the gold is metallic and the darkest portions have a gloss when viewed at an angle. Final photo is from the reverse side through the paper seepage. Drawing is loose, will be protected for shipping, needs to be re...

Small oil landscape, 13 1/2" by 9 1/2" framed, signed at lower right corner with initials N.A.M., with canvas stencil on the reverse of Winsor & Newton, London. This is a scene of autumn or early spring perhaps, the tree without leaves. There is a small irrigation channel with sluice gate at center left. The work is a quiet and pleasant scene focusing on a peaceful time of the year. A gold frame would enhance the painting. Condition is good, the canvas not perfectly flat.

Pastel and gouache mixed media work on red paper, measuring 18 1/4" by 13 1/2" plus thin old black wood frame, signed at lower right with what appears to be "Macero Arbuckle" and dated '04 (1904). I don't see any information on the artist. This is an interesting illustration work that is quite subtle, and being subtle, doesn't lend itself to being photographed easily. Condition is excellent. There is an old sticker on glass at lower left corner with "13" written on it.
