A late 20th century oil on canvas painting of a landscape, 30" by 30", unframed, signed at lower right "M T O'Brien". The colors used are light and airy----pinks, light blues, whites predominating. The creek or pond is very impressionistically presented. Great for a beach house or other sunny abode.

Beautifully executed drawing in soft pencil, 8 1/2" by 11 1/2" sheet, 6 1/2" by 9 1/2" inside the rectangular border drawn by the artist, and 10 1/4" by 13 5/8" as framed, signed at lower right "Davis F. Schwartz", showing a copse of trees in a hilly landscape. This drawing, which reminds of works by Ralph Holmes or Maynard Dixon, is nicely framed in a 1930's or 1940's frame. Schwartz (1879-1969) has a sizable listing in Hughes' "Artists in California 1786-1940"...

Thinned oil or possibly water-based casein/tempera on small board painting, 7 1/4" by 5 1/4" framed, signed at lower right by noted American artist Carol Jablonsky (1939-1992). The image is of a young female child, I believe of Native American or Mexican heritage. Jablonsky died at a young age but left behind a large body of work, including prints and original paintings...

A color print of the Montana landscape, specifically the mountain seen from the Many Glacier region of Glacier National Park, titled at bottom margin "Indian Paintbrush" (the red flowers, commonly seen in the mid-summer wildflower bloom at the park), hand signed in felt pen at lower right and numbered there 272/600, by noted contemporary Western American artist MARK OGLE (1952-)...

Pastel drawing of trees in early autumn by a large body of water, signed at lower right M. Moore, measuring 13 1/2" by 19" (21" by 26" framed). The viewer is reminded of Canadian art--landscapes of Ontario in the fall, for example--though this might just be a generic scene from the imagination of the artist. A colorful original work with considerable decorative quality. The drawing is slipping around a bit under the mat so will have to be re-affixed to backing.

Color print, 8 1/4 by 12" inside the mat, 14 1/2" by 18" as framed, (no glass), the subject the famous booksellers by the Seine in Paris, Notre Dame cathedral in the distance, numbered at lower left 166 out of editions of 500, and signed at lower right in pencil, by the noted French 20th century impressionist painter CHARLES BLONDIN (1913-1991). Blondin was active in Paris in the post war years, painting and creating very popular editions of prints which he numbered and hand signed...

Oil on canvasboard painting of the famous white Sacre Coeur church in Montmartre, 19" by 23" as framed, signed at lower left "M. Plagnier" or similar, created circa 1960's. At center bottom is "Paris, Sacre Coeur". This is a kitschy sort of painting that will grace your mid century interior. Condition is excellent.

Oil on thin linen canvas or possibly silk, 17" by 21" as simply framed, unsigned, probably circa 1930's to 1950's, the subject red and white roses. This was of course a favorite subject from about the turn of the century well into the twentieth, and today this kind of art is favored by those creating a shabby chic look. The present work has some wrinkling/rippling in the creamy unpainted background, as seen in the photos...

Watercolor on heavy pebbled watercolor, 10 1/4" by 13 3/4" (17 1/2" by 20 1/2" in simple, worn frame), unsigned, the subject an impressive sailing craft in a small boat harbor. The painting has a nice impressionist touch, and, apparently, some age (at least 1960's or before). On the reverse someone did some math calculations, writing the numbers in a distinctive old hand that is of a previous generation. The clean mat with gold inner edging can be retained; a new frame would work wonders.

This is a relatively earlier (1976 or before) work of the noted Bermudian artist ALFRED BIRDSEY (1912-1996). Birdsey was a familiar figure in Bermuda for decades, a prolific artist, the works of whom traveled with tourists when they returned from holidays. This would account for the wide distribution of his distinctive work. Today his daughter continues the family tradition, with similar looking paintings being sold to visitors. Birdsey worked in gouache or possibly oil or acrylic on paper...

Oil on canvas laid on board, 7" by 11" and 1 1/2" wide beautiful original pie crust frame in good condition, unsigned, but without a doubt the distinctive work of noted and prolific Northern California painter RICHARD DETREVILLE (one of several works by the artist in my shop). Detreville was born in South Carolina in 1864, and by the early years of the new century, he was in Stockton publishing a magazine. Shortly thereafter he was in San Francisco, represented by a gallery...

Oil on canvasboard painting of gulls flying above the waves, the stern of a boat at left, 12" by 16", (17" by 21 1/2" framed), signed in ink on reverse ("Painted by Edith Fite"/XXX Magee 1951"). The scene reminds of how hungry gulls loyally follow the back end of a fishing boat. I have not located information on the artist. The painting could well benefit from a cleaning after about 70 years.

An original watercolor painting of a pueblo in New Mexico against a dark blue sky, traditional pots displayed in foreground. The work, 13 3/4" by 10" on heavy watercolor paper (24 3/4" by 20 1/2" framed) is unsigned. It dates to the late 20th century and was likely created by a talented amateur artist, perhaps for the tourist trade. The designs on the pottery suggests this is possibly Zia Pueblo.

Rare early work by the Swedish artist C Von Schneidau . The work title "2nd problem night school" dated 1913 as well as another unfinished but same image is also included, Colored pencil and pencil drawing 12" by 9" Christian von Schneidau (1893-1976) Born Sweden on March 24 1893 of noble birth. Von Schneidau received an early education form private tutors then studied at the Stockholm Academy of Fine Art. He immigrated to the United States in 1906 and spent the first ten years in Minnesota...

A poetic landscape with tree and path on the bank of a small lake or large pond, signed at lower right "Zalich" or similar, 9 1/2" by 13" (15 1/2" by 18 3/4" framed), circa 1960. Condition is excellent, frame has a bit of wear consistent with age. The scene is simple but very calming.

Watercolor on heavy paper landscape with house on a moor at sunset, a distant hill at left and blooming white wildflowers in the foreground, measuring 8 3/4" by 11 1/4" inside the mat, 17" by 20" in a simple old wood frame, and signed with initials that look to me like "R.E.M."---but this is just a guess. The piece likely was created in the last years of the nineteenth or early years of the 20th century. The shape of the house suggests to me an English rather than American origin...

A detailed 19th century American botanical watercolor of white roses and leaves, unsigned, circa 1880, measuring 9 3/4" by 6 1/4" inside the mat, 16 3/4" by 12 1/2" as framed. The piece is in good antique condition with light foxing and uneven toning in the background, commonly seen in works of this age, and perhaps a small tear that has browned at left edge. The work could be on a silky material rather than paper. The detail is impressive. French mat parallel lines at to the appeal...

The work measures 3 3/4" by 5 1/4" inside the mat and 8" by 8 3/4" framed. This is by the noted American artist MORGAN DENNIS (1892-1960).
