A wonder portrait in watercolor by Jason Losh, a Washington DC Artist who paints in the style of Egon Shiele. 9”x 12”

Large oil on stretched canvas by the American artist Wesley Webber (1839-1914), identified often as a White Mountain Artist for his images of northern New England, depicting a bucolic farm scene, with lovely river and meadows, people and farm animals with houses in the background. Measures 16" x 30" x 3/4". Though always considered a realism artist, he was exposed to impressionism and some works exhibit this looser style...

An unusual double sided miniature by Frederick Buck. One side is painted using watercolors on ivory, and shows a young man with an upswept hair style, dressed in the usual black coat and white stock of the period. The reverse of the case shows an older man in profile, also in a black coat and white stock, but limned in watercolor on card. The paintings were probably done at somewhat different times, and then framed together.

The condition of the full face painting is excellent, with no issues...

Dynamic watercolor painting of a Kabuki actor, in motion, 19 1/2" by 14 3/4", signed at lower left and stamped there, and dated 1933, by the important Japan-born California artist CHIURA OBATA (1885-1975). This is a mid-life work by the artist, who showed early talent as a boy in Japan. By age 7 he was taking lessons in Sumi-e painting (traditional Japanese ink/brush painting) from a master. On the reverse of the painting is a preliminary sketch of the subject, which Bridport is known to have done. Only a portion of the sketch is shown, as I did not want to peel back all the paper.

A fine bronze animalier sculpture by Ferdinand Pautrot (1832-74). The figure represents a pair of songbirds, one of which has caught a fly in its mouth. The other bird appears to be contemplating the possibility of wresting the insect from his companion. Both birds are perched on the rocky ground typical of Pautrot's work. An upright flowering plant appears at one end of the composition...

This is a rather large portrait miniature done in body color and watercolor on ivory. The signature on the lower right is "P(or T)ouktuz Sta??er". The signature and attire indicate the painting was probably done by an Eastern European or Russian artist. The subject of this 19th century work is an attractive young girl from a wealthy family, based on the expensive clothing (the fur coat, gloves, hat, and boots).

This is an excellently and intricately carved boxwood very charming netsuke,made by the native of Ukraine Alexander Derkachenko. It depicts a seated Okame who is laughing as she holds a large Cucumber. Signed in seal form. Netsuke is stained in tan and brown colors. It measures 1.21 inches (3.1cm) wide, and 1.52 inches (3.8cm) tall. It is in outstanding condition, as may be seen in the posted photos. A nice naïve portrait of a woman, painted in watercolors on organic wafer. The sitter is simply presented in a black dress with lace edging at the bodice. An interesting twist is the fragment of a business card in the back of the case. It says "Painter ***wich City CT" (Norwich City). The artist attribution has been made based on a signed example provided by Brad Crisler, shown in photos 3 and 4, and is unmistakable based on technique and the location of Norwich City.
