This fine sculpture is by the diverse and talented Ernesto Montenegro. Titled "Crosswalk," it displays pedestrians walking across the street. Montenegro's "magic" gives the viewer a bird's-eye perspective, as if looking down from above on the pedestrians. Montenegro achieves this illusion by dramatically abridging the figures. When viewed sideways, the people have grossly stunted legs, walking down the vertical face of the sculpture as if propelled across the street by gravity...

“Watermill at Brantwood” Oil on canvas 20 ½” x 24 ½” Born in Liverpool, W.G. Collingwood was an author, artist, antiquary and Professor of Fine Arts. In 1872 he went to University College, Oxford, where he met John Ruskin. Three years later Collingwood was working at Brantwood with Ruskin and was Ruskin's secretary from 1881 onwards. Collingwood studied at the Slade School of Art between 1876 and 1878...

A very colorful 19th century Mexican retablo depicting a scene called "L'Alegoria de la Redencion." The composition depicts the elongated body of the crucified Christ spanning Heaven and Hell. God, making the sign of blessing and the Holy Spirit (in the form of a dove) watch from the upper section, while condemned souls in supplication watch from the flames of Hell at the bottom. Interestingly, the artist depicted one of the condemned souls as a Cardinal, indentifiable by his red cap...

Charles Brooking, 1723-1759, English. This oil on panel is a fine example of the early work of Charles Brooking, known as one of the finest British Maritime painters. It is 13" by 19" in a handsome newer frame (overall dimensions of 16 3/4" by 22 2/4".) The condition is good and it is signed indistinctly (as many of his paintings are) on the piece of wood floating in the lower front of the painting. He is listed in Benezit and his paintings sell for up to $400,000.
