This appears to be an original painting on silk, circa 1960's or 1970's, 15" by 17 1/4" framed, Chinese calligraphy and red seal at left. I say "appears" because there is a Windsor Art Products label on the reverse, suggesting this would be a print or multiple of some type. Having examined it very closely, however, it does still look to me like original work, and not a silkscreen. An unmounted Japanese three-part woodblock print titled, Townspeople Watching the Noh play Okina in Edo Castle, 1889. The artist is Toyoharu or Yoshu Chikanobu (1838-1912). The work depicts the staging of the Noh play with a fairly boisterous looking crowd of townspeople and a group of Samurai and notables seated quietly. The height of the prints is 13 7/8 inches (35.3 cm) and they vary between 9 ¼ to 9 93/4 inches 23.5 to 24.7 cm) wide.

This is a very well-painted miniature depicting a courtly scene of a nobleman and his companion on a pleasure boat, with three female attendants. Although Mughal in style, I am not 100% convinced that the painting is indeed of the period. For that reason, I am listing it as decorative only and have priced it accordingly.
