Oil on Masonite painting of a shady corridor or breezeway in an old traditional colonial era building, signed at lower left in the paint by listed Mexican artist EDUARDO VILLANUEVA. On the reverse is written "combento de Huejotzingo/Eduardo Villanueva/Pueblo 30 de agosto de 1957/Barrio del artista Estado (?)/Mexico". This would appear to be the convento de Huejotzingo, a colonial building in a small town northwest of Puebla...

Set of THREE Italian circa 1946 paintings on canvas, in decorative gold matching frames, unsigned, each 9" by 11 1/4" as framed, the subject familiar scenes of Venice, executed in the classical eighteenth century style of Canaletto or Guardi. These works were commonly produced for the tourist trade by talented artists. This set evidently dates to the immediate post-war period, as one bears a date stamp on reverse, 3 Ottobre 1946 and a "Made in Italy" circular sticker...

A striking modern watercolor and ink drawing signed at lower right in Hebrew by listed Israeli artist HANA LEVI (1914-2002). The work, 19" by 27" (27" by 34 1/2" framed) is elegant, with subdued color palette consisting of black, gray, conservative brown and light green. The artist is listed, and works are offered at auction, many closely resembling this one; though, there seems to be some confusion in the marketplace...

A pencil drawing of a nude with head resting on her knee, 7 1/2" by 7" (17 1/4" by 16 1/2" as framed), by the important Bulgarian-born Jewish artist, JULES PASCIN (1885-1930). This drawing has an illustrious provenance, and the artist himself led a fascinating, yet tragic life, making this seemingly simple slip of paper a most interesting ambassador of art history...

This is a beautiful impressionist still life of pink roses in a glass pitcher, signed at lower left in Cyrillic and dated 1994 by the noted Ukrainian artist VASILY PONIKAROV (1929-). Measuring 26" by 18 3/4" (33" by 26" as framed in pink metal frame and matching mat), it is a powerfully impressionistic work by a master of watercolor art. Ponikarov was born near Odessa and was exhibiting his art by 1965...

A refined old drawing titled "Caterskill Clove" dated Oct. 7, 1859, the subject a famed rocky gorge in the eastern part of the Catskill mountains of New York State (google "Catskill Clove" for full information on this renowned scenic area). The work is apparently unsigned. There are any number of listed artists of the Hudson River School who could have created the drawing; Sanford Robinson Gifford, William Hart, Asher Durand and many others of note painted in the area...

Oil on board painting of a peaceful lake surrounded by forest and peaks in the distance, 11" by 18" (16 1/4" by 23 1/2" in wood frame), unsigned, circa late 1940's to 1950 or so, but executed in an earlier style that goes back to the early years of the century. These freely executed impressionistic works met the demand for affordable original art in the first half of the 20th century, and many are still around, though they have suffered the ravages of time...

Attractive, vintage watercolor painting of colorful flowers in a sunny garden, measuring 9 1/2" by 14" (16" by 21" framed). This lovely work is apparently unsigned--I have opened the backing to peer inside and see neither signature nor any other information besides numbers in pencil. The painting does have some age. The artist clearly had an excellent command of the watercolor medium. The custom mat with hand drawn lines and silvery border adds to the appeal...

A classic work of 19th century American art: oil on artist's board painting of an elderly lady, apparently lost in thought, as she contemplates a bill and a paltry few coins in her palm, the proceeds from her sales of apples at two cents apiece (they seen in the right background). The 11 1/2" by 9 1/2" oval shaped painting (14" by 11 3/4" in the frame) is signed at right center "C. C. Markham" (CHARLES COLE MARKHAM, 1837-1907). The work is not dated but was likely created in the 1880's or 1890'...

This is one of the very scarce, desirable prints "Le Nid--Coree" ("The Nest--Korea") by the important French-Japanese printmaker artist PAUL JACOULET (1902-1960). In December 1941, as war exploded upon the world, the image was created by the artist as a gift for his mother, who never got to actually see it. The edition in this size/coloration is said to have been fewer than 200 examples. This particular image of a bearded old Korean man in traditional clothing tenderly feeding a dragon fly to hu...

Watercolor and ink marker drawing of Greek buildings by dark blue sea, a boat at right, signed at lower left with signature that appears as "Bremmer". I think this was likely created by an American artist, perhaps painting while on vacation in the Mediterranean. I'd date it as maybe 1980's. It is a pleasant and decorative work that should evoke memories of vacations in the Greek Islands; this could very likely be a view of famous Santorini. Condition is excellent. The pieces measures 11 3/4...

A watercolor painting of pine or cypress trees on the coast, perhaps a place like Carmel or Santa Barbara, measuring 14 3/4" by 18 3/4" (20" by 23 1/2" framed). The work is unsigned, (I have opened it up to peek inside, no writing anywhere) and judging from the framing it could date to the 1970's or 1960's. The artist used quality Arches paper (see blind stamp of same). The painting is clean and problem-free; over the years it has slipped inside its mat so will have to be probably re-affixed.

Fine watercolor on paper drawing of a dirt road or track in a country landscape, signed at lower left by the listed American artist NEIL REID MITCHILL (sometimes misspelled as "Mitchell") 1858-1934. Mitchill was born in New York and was painting in nearby Connecticut by the 1890's, where he is credited with being the first resident artist of Westport (which went on to become a 20th century art colony of sorts). Mitchill exhibited at the National Academy, Art Institute of Chicago, Pennsylvania ...

A modern, stylish abstract in violets and blue-green colors, nicely framed ("floating") with inner fillet and very complementary silvery outer frame, signed at lower right by artist MARC BENSIMON (1926-) and dated there 1982. The work measures 18" by 12" (28" by 22 1/2" framed). Surprisingly, considering the quality of the work, I am unable to locate information on the artist. Condition is excellent, just the slightest wear on the frame. Very decorative sleek work for the home.
