Watercolor on paper drawing of a homey mid 19th century interior in America or England, measuring 9 1/8" by 11 5/8" as simply framed, the work signed "Sketch/Walter Richards" at lower right in white. This was probably preliminary art for a more finished drawing or painting by this well known freelance illustrator. The drawing contains a lot of detail for its modest size: five figures are about to eat soup from a cauldron at midday...

Watercolor painting titled on the mat in ink "Rockport Bay", the subject small craft in a sheltered small harbor framed by distant hills. The artist signed the drawing at lower left "Norma Page Aug. '45" and again signed, this time on the mat, at lower right. There is another word after "Page" that appears as "Douyes" or "Damyes" or similar, but I am unable to locate a listed artist by any of these names...

Crayon drawing on paper of village rooftops in a European mountain setting, 8 3/4" by 11 3/8" inside the mat, 14 1/2" by 17" in simple strip frame (not pictured), unsigned. The artist was talented but unfortunately remains anonymous. There are a few scribbles on the reverse side of the paper (see last image). The work dates to the first half of the twentieth century. It is in good condition, consistent with its age; some paper toning and very slight ripple.

PAIR of etchings of dogs, one a Fox Terrier, the other a Scottish Terrier, each signed at lower right in pencil by the renowned twentieth century German dog and cat and other animal artist, KURT MEYER-EBERHARDT (1895-1977). The artist was born in Leipzig and died in Munich. In the late 1920's he was studying with Thedor Hagen and Lyonel Feininger, and could have ascended to the highest levels of the art world. He however chose to pursue his love of depicting domestic and other animals...

Found locally in Los Angeles, this is a large oil on canvas still life of orange and yellow garden nasturtiums in a blue and white old ceramic vessel, a ladies' fan and blue beads resting at its base, the colorful subjects placed elegantly in the neutral space of a cloth covered table and gray-white background, the work signed at lower right by the noted Spanish artist VICENTE SANTAOLARIA (1886-1967)...

Oil on canvas laid on board painting of the Grand Canyon, 17" by 21" (20" by 24" as framed), apparently unsigned, circa 1940's, possibly earlier, executed in a naive manner that borders on or crosses the line to folk art. I think the technique is intentionally naive and primitive, as opposed to just the less-refined work of an amateur artist. The frame (see close-up) adds to the folk art aspects. This is a fine addition to your Southwest or Southwest folk art collection.

This is an original etching, 11" by 16 1/2" (17" by 21" as framed), by American artist Kerr Eby (1889-1946). The title of the work is "Cattle Ford", and it was executed in 1945, in an edition of 100 apparently. Eby was born in Tokyo to Canadian missionaries but was in the United States by age 3. At 18 he went to New York City for art education, working for a lithographic firm to enhance his financial situation, gaining valuable experience that served him well later in life...

Color etching titled "La Mare" ("the pond"), featuring a whitewashed two story country house or inn by a dirt road next to a pond, signed in pencil below the image "de Croisset". There is a printed label on the backing stating that this is a limited edition. A search by this name does not reveal a listed artist; I suggest that this might be a pen name/pseudonym. The date is probably circa 1930's to about 1950 at the latest...

Beautiful and original oil on paper painting from Field & Stream magazine in the 1940s or early 50s measuring 28 x 20“ Illustrator Arthur Davenport Fuller was born in Exeter, New Hampshire, and educated at Harvard University, the Fenway School of Illustration in Boston, and the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. Fuller was an ardent sportsman all his life. His hunting and fishing pictures were a natural part of his identity...

DESCRIPTION: Oil on canvas painting of a Mexican pueblo (or village) by artist R. M. Domez. The multi-story adobe structures with slanted roofs are seen in the escaping light of an approaching storm. Frame is carved wood and gilt; dating from the first half of the 20th C. and in excellent condition. DIMENSIONS: Sight: 23 1/2" wide (59.6 cm) x 18 3/4" high (47.6 cm). In the frame: 29" wide (73.7 cm) x 24 1/2" high (62.2).

Bals-Werthmann" or similar, and dated there 1944. I don't see a listing for that name or variants I have tried. The artist, working during the darkest days of World War II, must have been wanting to try to bring a little brightness to grim times...

The drawing measures 11" by 15", the entire unframed sheet 15" by 19 1/2". Lauritz is considered one of the important plein air painters, a number of works having exceeded $25,000 at auction...

The watercolor likely dates to about the middle years of the 20th century, I would guess. Writing on the reverse seems to say "Israel/Yarkon River"...
