A subtly elegant watercolor and ink drawing on a rice-type traditional paper, the subject bare autumn or winter trees around a small body of water, the work signed in characters at lower left, also signed in English "Jim Zhang", and bearing at upper left the red seal of the artist. Measuring 19" by 19 1/2" (28" by 28" in blond wood framing, behind Plexi), the work is tradtional while being contemporary at the same time. Condition is excellent...

This print Z-446B was one of a small number of creations that he put on hard, gold-edged board. Daniel Tretiak wrote that these prints “were printed first on very thin paper, which was then ‘wrapped’ around heavy shikishi board. They are lithographs not done from wood blocks. Done in 1999, this work measures 7.25in x 8.25in, is in excellent condition, and one of an edition of 77.

Grape 2 is one of Haku Maki’s depictions of fruit. This one is pure and simple and in good condition. It is 8.5 sq inches.

American watercolor painting on heavy watercolor paper, of trees in a shaded landscape, circa mid 20th century. The unsigned work measures 15 1/2" by 22 1/2" (unframed). Condition is excellent; small pinholes in corners where the artist had this affixed while working on it. Could probably be sent rolled in a tube for savings on shipping.

The work measures 6 3/4" by 7 3/4" and 16" by 20" as framed. Condition is excellent. I have been unable to locate information on the photographer.

The bottom margin states this is 39/777 but did Maki really do that many and if so where are they? This is a late-in-life Maki print. Where did this idea come from? A sunflower! I know van Gogh did quite a few famous paintings depicting many sunflowers, all realistic paintings. The Japanese printmaker Tadashi Nakayama did many different takes on Sunflowers. Alexandre Grégoire (August 29, 1922 – July 28, 2001) was a Haitian painter who typically depicted scenes of Vodou, daily life, and historical events in the naïve style. Late in life, circa 1999, Japanese master print maker, Haku Maki, did this shikishiban print. It is called Z1-12 (WAZA); 7.25'' x 8.25''; Shikishiban is a nearly square format. Shikishiban are often mounted on a thick, light cardboard. Japanese people like to give them as presents. The print is in the US and will be shipped from there.
