Born at Atherstone, Warwickshire, England on May 17th, 1815, Syer studied with J. Fisher, a miniaturist, and settled in Bristol. Syer was one of the prime favorites of the Victorian era...

This is a fine example of the important etching by Jean Baptiste Corot. This etching is titled: Enviorns De Rome, it was created in 1866, this proof is the second state A. of three. Printed on Holland Paper, This printing had the addresses of:" Cadart and Luquet Editeurs, 79 Rue St Jacques 303 Paris" A rich impression, Catalog Delteil 6 II/III. Framed, previously sold by Kennedy Galleries in New York. The image size measures 11 1/4X8 1/2 inches.

A fine Watercolor Portrait of Elderly Lady Circa 1900 40” x 31”, framed a d matted

A refined old drawing titled "Caterskill Clove" dated Oct. 7, 1859, the subject a famed rocky gorge in the eastern part of the Catskill mountains of New York State (google "Catskill Clove" for full information on this renowned scenic area). The work is apparently unsigned. There are any number of listed artists of the Hudson River School who could have created the drawing; Sanford Robinson Gifford, William Hart, Asher Durand and many others of note painted in the area...

A highly detailed nineteenth century PENCIL DRAWING, NOT A PRINT, featuring a classic turreted castle, with numerous (approximately twenty) figures completing the scene, unframed, 7" by 9 1/8". The artist signed at lower left corner "F. Pohl", and "1846" is written on the reverse. Nearby are two blue stamps that could be collector stamps. Condition is excellent, needs a frame.

A. Rattner, German artist was born in Munich German 1864 and worked his whole life in the region of the black Forrest. Best known for his poster illustrations he was beloved so much by the city of his birth that they chose him to represent them at city festivals 19x15 inches

Watercolor on paper, 10" by 8" (16" by 13 3/4" in a contemporary gold frame), the subject a white house looming above a country lane on which a horse-drawn carriage moves at left. The scene is obviously in the tropics or sub-tropics, there being palms and other exotic vegetation. It could be Bermuda, or, perhaps, somewhere in the Caribbean basin. The work is signed in pencil at lower right "J. Pittaway" and "'24 & '25" is adjacent...

Watercolor on paper, 8 1/2" by 17 1/2" inside the mat (13 1/2" by 22 1/2" in its very nice circa 1920 vintage frame), signed at lower right and inscribed there "Munich" by the well listed American artist CHARLES PAUL GRUPPE (1860-1940). The subject is a creek or small lake or pond at sunset. Born in Ontario, Canada, Gruppe was in Europe by age 20, where he explored France, Germany and Holland. I imagine that this work would date to that early 1880's period when he would have been in Germany...

Oil on gray academy board painting, 12" by 17 7/8", 16" by 22" in the rather battered old framing, unsigned, probably executed in the latter years of the nineteenth century in New England. The artist created a comforting scene with a folk art feel, the handling of the trees and structure charmingly primitive. More than likely, this will need a new frame. There is a roughly circular dark area as seen at lower left, about 1" in diameter, that has been abraded...

A beautifully executed watercolor painting of ladies on the shore of an Italian lake, high mountains and a red-roofed town on the opposite shore, signed at lower right by artist "L. Vian". This is likely a scene of one of the famous northern Italian lakes such as Lago Maggiore or Lago Como. The bright light is captured with skill and perspective and color is obviously well handled by a talented artist...

A fine pair of miniature portrait paintings, on natural organic material, housed in a 1/6 plate daguerreotype case, which is embossed in a cartouche on the front and back "M.B. Brady Case Maker NY". Cases by Brady are highly desirable and avidly collected.
