A pastel of the river Seine in Paris with the top of a building in the distance over leafy trees and a barge passing through the arch of a bridge by the American born Louis Orr who spent much of his life in Paris. This in a nice example of his work in a new mat and frame. Sight size of pastel 12 by 16 inches (30 by 40 cm) frame size 19 3/8 by 23 3/8 inches (49 by 59 cm).

Condition: Excellent with acid free mat and backing.

There is little biographical information on Simonetti, and it has been suggested that it is a pseudonym for Gian Gianni who was one of the last of the view painters of Italy. Gianni worked mostly in watercolor and produced views of Naples and Venice for people who were making the Grand Tour...

A finely carved, schist figure representing the goddess Hariti from the Gandharan Empire. she holds a cornucopia in her left hand and had a pomegranate in her right hand now missing as is her knee. wavy hair, as well as the sensitive modeling of Hariti's face demonstrates a classical influence. A well-executed old watercolor (and a little gouache) painting of roses, glass vases and a Chinese blue-white plate, circa 1930, signed by artist ADELAIDE STRIGNER. Strangely, despite the quality of the work, I have not located a name of a listed known artist that would correspond. The piece measures 11 1/2" by 20" inside the mat and 21 3/4" by 30 1/2" in its period frame, which has some chip losses especially at right. There is an inconsequential old cut in the paper at upper right field...

THREE circa 1960's gouache on heavy paper abstract drawings, unframed, each 24" by 18", each signed at lower right "Greene". The works definitely seem to have some age as the reverse side of the paper is brown and vintage. I cannot connect these to any particular artist so offer them as decorative mid-century works. Condition is excellent, with just one edge nick on one drawing. Each is in a protective-only plastic poster box...
