An unusually attractive example of the work of artist Anders Gittelson (1921-2003), better known by his brush name "GISSON" or "ANDRE GISSON". This oil on canvas, measuring 24" by 20" (33" by 28 1/2" as ornately framed) features a lovely nude seen from the back, fixing her hair as she prepares to enter the water, the dominating hues various shades of blue, all bathed in the white suffused light commonly seen in the artist's works. The painting reminds in some ways of the work of Renoir...

A very appealing small forest interior painting on board, 9" by 11" (12" by 14" in modern day gold framing), unsigned on front but on reverse in old hand is written (difficult to decipher) "near XXX farm Hampstead Heath/Oct. 3 1908 5 PM/P. P. (XXXX)". The word after P.P. is the last name of the artist but it has defied my efforts to make it out. The scene is painted in luminous tan colors with light grayish green and cream here and there, all in a very impressionistic blond to silvery light...

An etching on paper, 7 1/4" by 5 1/4" inside the mat, 12 1/2" by 9 3/4" framed, signed at lower right in pencil by well-known New Orleans artist EUGENE F. LOVING (1908-1971). The print is titled at lower left, "Bourbon Street Patio", and bears the artist's notation "Ed/100" at lower center. Loving was a familiar figure on the New Orleans art scene for decades, painting and executing prints as well. A teacher as well, he was something of a father figure of sorts to other artists in the region...

This is a mixed media work by the eminent, major Iraqi artist KHALID AL RAHAL (1926-1987), the subject being seven individuals grouped into what looks like two families with children. The painting is apparently a plaster mix covered by resin, on panel, standing out in three dimensional relief, and then painted, the work measuring 15 1/2" by 19 1/2" (21 3/8" by 25" as framed). It is signed at lower left "Kalid" and dated there "64"...

Attractive, vintage watercolor painting of colorful flowers in a sunny garden, measuring 9 1/2" by 14" (16" by 21" framed). This lovely work is apparently unsigned--I have opened the backing to peer inside and see neither signature nor any other information besides numbers in pencil. The painting does have some age. The artist clearly had an excellent command of the watercolor medium. The custom mat with hand drawn lines and silvery border adds to the appeal...

This is a pretty, impressionist circa 1930's small landscape painting of trees and a path bordering water, painted on gray art board, measuring 9" by 12" (13 1/2" by 16" framed). There is no signature on the front but on the art board label is written in ink "Swick". This may or may not be the artist. The painting is so nicely executed, but its inherent beauty is dulled by decades of dirt. A professional cleaning will truly transform this one...

Oil on canvas bucolic landscape, a figure tending to haystacks in a tawny field, a towering tree looking over it all, 19 1/2" by 30", (26" by 35 1/2 " framed), signed at lower right by late nineteenth century English artist G CLAYTON. There are a few works by the artist in the auction records but I see no biography. Judging from the subject matter,handling, and materials, the work would likely date to about 1890. Watercolor painting of a mountain landscape in autumn, signed at lower left with what appears as "F. Renaud". A brook or stream occupies the right center. This is a nicely painted work, 4 5/8" by 6 1/2" inside the mat, 8 3/4" by 10 3/4" simply framed. The watercolor probably dates to the 1960's or 1970's. Photos were taken with the present cloudy non-glare glass removed. I suggest discarding it permanently in favor of regular glass. Ready to hang on the wall as-is, though.
