Donald Shaw MacLaughlan was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada on November 9, 1876. His family moved to Boston, Massachusetts in 1890 where he began to experiment with different art media; watercolor, oil painting and finally, etching – with a few attempts at lithography. This piece on toned paper depicts a view of Venice Italy, done circa 1910 measuring 21x18 inches

A most unusual painting on wood panel, 24" by 30", unframed, featuring some gritty, tough-looking downtown Los Angeles men in a claustrophobic, vertiginous streetscape of old hotel buildings. The Hotel Rosslyn and annex were built in 1914 and 1923, respectively, and were fashionable places to stay, in their day, at Fifth and Main in old downtown. The medium used is likely casein or other non-oil, water-based paint...

Acrylic on canvas painting, 24" by 24", unframed, signed illegibly lower right, also dated there 06 and inscribed. I cannot make out the signature, and do not know if it be simply by an amateur of considerable talent, or perhaps, by a known artist? The signature most definitely has a professional look to it.

Lithograph on paper, 7 1/2" by 4 1/2" (13 1/8" by 10" as framed), signed in pencil at lower right by the noted German Jewish artist HERMANN STRUCK (1876-1944). The subject is a man wearing a cap. Struck was born in Berlin or Orthodox Jewish parentage. Early in his life he met the Zionist leader Theodor Herzl (1860-1904), a meeting which profoundly influenced the artist. Struck's most desirable subject matter, scenes of Israel from the late 1920's, have brought to the $25,000 area at auction...

It is oil on board of a beautiful nude with long flowing red hair sitting outside in a dreamy landscape. It is 7" H by 6" W. It is oil on board and initialed "CB" His painting go for up to $25,000 and he is listed in Davenport and Who was Who in American Art.

Gerald Leslie Brockhurst 1890-1978 English This is a very fine original etching by British artist Gerald Brockhurst. The subject is Kathleen Nancy Woodward and is titled: Jeunesse Doree (Gilded Youth) This image is pencil signed and dated G.L. Brockhurst 1942. The image measures 10 7/8X8 7/8 inches. The etching is printed on an antique cream toned laid paper with partial watermark. Printed in an edition of 75 this image appears in the Fletcher catalog as image number 80...

Lester Stevens was a landscape painter and teacher from the Boston school of painting. He was born in Rockport, MA in 1888 and he died in Greenfield, MA in 1969. He studied with Parker S. Perkins in Rockport; Tarbell and Benson at Boston's Museum School; and in Europe after World War I. Large watercolor painting of the famous formations at Monument Valley, Arizona, arguably one of the most iconic sights of the American Southwest. The work, signed at lower left simply "George", measures 20" by 27 1/2" inside the mat and 31 3/4" by 40" framed. The artist was obviously quite skilled, but he did not leave us a lot of evidence as to his identity. The painting probably dates to the 1970's or 1980's...

Original oil on masonite (36 x 24)by Paul D. Natkin, contemporary artist from Seattle (solo exhibits at the Davidson Gallery, Pioneer Square). The painting is titled "...thinking distant thoughts..." and dates from 1998. It is one of the many representations the artist has created of a specific Seattle viewpoint which has fascinated him for many years.

One of two works by this artist in my shop is this watercolor on paper, measuring 8 1/4" by 13 5/8" inside the mat, 14" by 19" as framed, signed at lower right by the noted American nineteenth century artist GEORGE HERBERT MCCORD (1848-1909). This is a nicely painted work by an artist considered to be among the "second generation" of Hudson River School painters. McCord was from the New York and New Jersey area, but he painted in Europe, and for a time in the western United States...

Original pencil figural drawing, 15" by 9" plus a gray mat, unframed, signed at lower right "K. Delaney" and dated there 1979. I do not know who the artist might have been but he or she certainly had a talent as a draftsperson. The condition is generally good save for modest paper browning and there is tape residue on the reverse from clumsy attachment to the mat. Fit a frame on this and you'll have a pleasant, nicely executed drawing.
