Original scarce 1915 etching known variously as "Sunset Williamsburg Bridge", or, "New York, From the Williamsburg Bridge", signed at lower right margin in pencil by the important American etcher, illustrator, critic, author and teacher JOSEPH PENNELL (1857-1926). The sheet, unframed, measures 11 1/2" by 16 5/8". After the signature, the "imp." indicates that Pennell would have printed this himself...

An oil on Masonite painting of a red roofed mill with the mill pond in the foreground and a barn against a hill in the distance. Painted in an unusual palette that includes lavender. I have been unable to find a listing for the artist. In a new frame. 10 by 12 inches, with frame 12.5 by 14.5 inches.

Condition: excellent.

Though it is difficult to date, I suspect it is from the middle of the 20th century and most likely to be American.

A scarce lithograph print, the sheet 10 3/8" by 6 3/4" (13 1/2" by 10 1/2" in inexpensive modern framing) signed in the plate and dated 1893 by the noted French artist PAUL-ALBERT BESNARD (1849-1934). The image is a self-portrait of the Paris-born artist, who initially worked in the academic tradition before changing over around 1880 to an impressionist style. Besnard was commissioned to execute a number of murals at significant venues around Paris...

Alex Jeanty successfully taught him in watercolors, Néhémy Jean in designing, and Dieudonné Cédor and Dorcely in oils. He has exhibited in Europe and Haiti. His art is mentioned in many Haitian art books. "Gabriel's rigor and clear colors contrast with his strong, colorful personality," says Gerald Alexis in his book Peintres Haitiens

This is an OIL ON BOARD with a Scene from the CHICAGO WORLDS FAIR ca. 1890. More accurately known as: The World's Columbian Exposition; the Chicago World's Fair of 1893. This Painting was being shown at a small Gallery and was originally believed to be a San Francisco scene. A collector insisted this to be a scene from the CHICAGO WORLDS FAIR. An unusually attractive example of the work of artist Anders Gittelson (1921-2003), better known by his brush name "GISSON" or "ANDRE GISSON". This oil on canvas, measuring 24" by 20" (33" by 28 1/2" as ornately framed) features a lovely nude seen from the back, fixing her hair as she prepares to enter the water, the dominating hues various shades of blue, all bathed in the white suffused light commonly seen in the artist's works. This a superbly Carved Crucifix was made from Walnut, both cross and corpus. Walnut is used on large sculptures such as this one, because it does not brake while the artisan is working it, and because it lasts a very long time. This large cross features a detailed hand carved sculpture of Jesus nailed on a wooden cross with forged iron-styled nails over his hands and feet.
