A most interesting Mid-Century, as late as 1980's perhaps, multiple: a so-called "cast stencil", "cast paper", or "relief" print, therefore three dimensional, featuring a grid pattern of elongated shapes, with air brush paint application on the striking blue and red sections, signed at lower right in pencil and numbered 34/250 in pencil at lower left by noted Arkansas-associated artist PAUL MAXWELL (1925-2015). This is typical imagery by the artist and sculptor...

An original ink drawing of a 19th century sailing ship, signed at lower right and dated 1970/Old Lahaina by artist WILLIAM SELLERS. I have not located much information on the artist, but see that pencil signed prints of some of his imagery were evidently distributed. This is definitely an original work; careful inspection shows his guiding pencil lines...

Frantesek Kupka, 1871-1957, Opocno. Bohemia, Czech, and died in France. This stunning early mordernist painting is an early and an extremely fine example of Kupka's painting. It is approximately 17"H by 13"w in a 4" frame. It is signed clearly lower right and the entire painting and signature under black light looks good with no in painting. Kupka attended the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Prague at 17 years old and the Beaux Arts in Vienna. He moved to Paris in 1895 and also won the Prix de Rome...

An oil on board painting, (19" by 16", and 27" by 23" framed), of a French landscape, by the French mid century impressionist artist ROGER ETIENNE (1922-2011). The painting is signed at lower left by the artist and dated there 1975, and at lower right he wrote a dedication to previous owners "Pour Balli & John". The scene, an avenue leading into a small town or village, is at once impressionist and also Expressionist, with strong brush strokes especially in sky, and some points of bright color...

The following information was submitted in August of 2006 by Helen Glenn Court: John Court was born in 1948 in Annapolis Maryland, and graduated from Cornell University in 1970, receiving his Master of Fine Arts Degree from this institution in 1972...

Oil on canvas impressionist still life of flowers, 24" by 30" (30" by 36" in the vintage, period frame), signed at lower right by listed California artist Edwin L. Forker (1876-1958). Born in Pennsylvania, Forker was in California by 1918. He is known today for the body of decorative paintings he left for posterity. This work is in excellent condition, having come directly from a West Los Angeles house where it was displayed for many years.

A very rare and exquisitely carved ivory CICADA NETSUKE, signed, Meiji period, Japan. Excellent condition, no damage or restorations whatsoever. The signature on the bottom is in red on an oval piece of mother of pearl. Details of the cicada's body are incredibly fine and exact. Size: length 5.3 cm x width 1.9 cm x height 1.3 cm. Oil on board painting featuring flaming autumnal trees, a view to high mountains beyond, signed at lower right "STIRLING". This 12" by 8 1/2" work (18" by 15" framed) is a rather typical example of Colorado impressionist artist DAVE STIRLING (1887-1971). Stirling was a familiar face in Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park, where he had a studio from which he sold paintings to passing tourists. The studio and home was called the Bugscuffle Ranch, and it was located just inside the park...

A watercolor on organic natural wafer of a somewhat older woman wearing a blue jacket with fur edging, a pearl choker, and a rust colored cap with lace. The unusual characteristics of the piece are the hand decorated paper surround and that the painting is in a frame that slides into a close fitting leather case.

The condition of the painting is excellent, with no issues, while the case has exterior wear but is structurally sound. Sight size is 2: by 1 5/8", and the case is 2 7/8" by 2 1/8"

Gouache and pencil abstract drawing on paper, 7 1/4" by 11 1/4" (14" by 18" in metal frame of the period), signed on the reverse of the inner backing with what appears as "Richard Chinn(xxx)/gouache/pencil/fall '77". This is an elegant modern little work with attractive colors and composition. I at first thought it unsigned, and was ready to sell it as such, but decided to dig just a bit further, laboriously disassembling the framing, in search of any writing...
