A nicely crafted oil on wood panel painting of an ancient castle or coastal fortification, likely Italy, signed at lower left "Tiboni". The piece measures 7" by 11" (13" by 16 1/4" nicely framed). The work was likely created in the 1950's or 1960's. Written in pencil on reverse is "70 Pounds" (actually, symbol for British Pounds). A light cleaning would be beneficial but not mandatory. The piece is of a nice size that would fit many smaller walls.

Simply attired in a white gown, and with powdered hair, the sitter is shown with a pensive and somewhat downcast expression. Presented in a gold frame, the glazed reverse having a plaited hair border and a hairwork wheat-sheaf with seed pearls on opalescent glass. In the late 1970s, ceramics became an important concentration for Maki’s artistic creations. As ceramic objects are central to Japanese culture, he didn’t have to look far for inspiration. He did many fine examples and the texture of each item is always striking. This tan bowl was created in 1979. Collection 19 was number 12 of 205 and it measures 9.5inW x 10.5inH. It is embossed and in good condition.
