A fine American miniature painting on natural wafer of a hazel-eyed woman, dressed in a white bonnet and fichu. Original locket gilt metal case has a plait of hair in the aperture on the back of the case.

Superb condition with no problems. The locket is 2 3/8" by 2", and the sight size of this little gem is 2 1/4" by 1 7/8".

Beautifully painted impressionist work by artist "Rosis", dated at lower right 1961, the scene buildings and old style lamp posts, the French tricolor flag appearing several times. The painting though created at mid twentieth century seems to harken back to the famous late 19th century scenes by vaunted artists like Monet, Sisley, Pissarro, and the other major impressionists. I do not see a listing under this name but the artist was very talented...

Old, antique oil on fine weave canvas laid on board painting of trees, distant small structures and a wooden footbridge in the foreground crossing a stream, 17 3/4" by 23 3/4" (23" by 29" as framed), apparently unsigned, and likely executed at the end of the 19th century. Oil on canvas, 30" by 25" and 1 1/4" wide frame, unsigned, the subject two ladies and a cradled baby, in a traditional European interior of the nineteenth century. Due to the stretcher and canvas weave, I believe this is actually a work by an American artist, who skillfully copied a master work from Europe (probably Italian, or, Tyrol area/South German?)...

Bio: Joseph William Dawley (1936-2008) was born in Nashville, Arkansas and raised in Dallas, Texas. He received his B.A. from SMU where some of his art hangs today. He married and moved to NJ where Joe worked for the Newark Evening News retouching photos and sidelining as a political cartoonist. In the late 1960's Joe created a daily comic strip which was syndicated and distributed nationwide as "The Chief"...
