At first glance appearing to be a print, this is in fact a painstakingly executed watercolor drawing, likely French I am thinking, measuring 16" by 20 1/2" (23 3/4" by 28" framed). The subject is of formal 18th century (earlier?) figures lounging on a classical Versailles-like terrace. They are surrounded by a balustrade, fountain, distant trees, and, in the immediate foreground, a border of oversized flowers...

Monotype on paper (where the artist "draws" the image on a sheet of glass, after which the glass plate is very carefully pressed against paper in order to produce an image), 5 3/8" by 7 7/8" (the image), the unframed sheet 7 3/4" by 9 1/2", signed in pencil at lower right margin by listed American artist MARION GRAY TRAVER (1892-1964). This a landscape in perhaps early spring or late fall, with muted pastel colors making for a harmonious and pleasing image...

This is a superb charcoal on paper drawing laid to an old board, signed at upper right (look carefully to find it, in the final photo) Ernest W. Scanes. The paper measures 17" by 22". I would date the work to the 1930's or 1940's, judging from the excellent WPA regionalism style. Indeed, this greatly resembles a number of "AAA" (Associated American Artists) lithograph prints of the period...

Thomas W. Nason 1889-1971 New England This is an original chiaroscuro wood engraving, done in two blocks, black and grey. The title is Eggemoggin Reach, created and printed in 1940 in an edition of 250 signed proofs. The image measures 6X10 inches, hand signed lower right in pencil. This wood engraving was published by Associated American Artists in New York. Very fine condition.

A fine miniature portrait painting, on natural organic material, done by John Alexander McDougall. The sitter is a distinguished gentleman dressed fashionably in a ruffled blue shirt, light blue vest, and black coat.

The miniature is in excellent condition, with no problems or restoration. The brass case is also without flaws. The photo of the back does appear to have blemishes, but these are label residues...

**One of several works by the artist in my shop** Ink drawing on heavy Strathmore art paper, the subject the familiar cathedral at San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The unframed work measures 28 3/4" by 23", and is signed by the artist at lower left and dated there 1953. The Illinois-born Lutz is known today for his urban landscapes and genre subjects, often painted with bright color and with heavy impasto...

One of two works in my shop by apparently the same artist, (acquired at different times---the other JB01670): a watercolor on paper, 10 3/4" by 7 1/2" (17" by 14" in its simple green frame), signed illegibly (faint, at lower right), the subject a Spanish (most likely) church tower, the foreground dominated by impressive arches and columns. I have included three photos of the faint signature and leave it to the viewer to try to decipher it...

Original drawing a portrait of a man possibly a self portrait by Balthasar Klossowski de Rola, signed monogram lower right. Best known as Balthus, a French painter in the second half of the 20th century, famous for his somewhat disturbing paintings of pubescent girls and for his association with some of the greats in modern art, including Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali...

INDIAN BRONZE FIGURE OF A DANCER, LATE 19TH CENTURY captured in mid-dance with a bell in one hand, the dancer dressed in a short patterned dhoti, wearing necklaces and large circular earrings in her pendulous earlobes, all atop a double lotus base, h: 14.5 in

TWO pen and ink drawings, identical size and frames, 9 7/8" by 7 5/8", one titled "Down the Gulch" and the other "Slave Quarters, Glen Haven, Colo.", each signed "A.C." and one dated 1936. I don't know who "A.C." might be/have been, but, if you collect Colorado art, you might like this pair of drawings of a mountain road and a mountain cabin. You might wish to reframe them. If anyone knows who the artist is, please do let me know.

A Hand Colored Botanical Print Portraying Gladiolas. The Artist is the Victorian Jane Webb Loudon (1807-1858), and the Print is from the book “The Ladies Flower Garden of Ornamental Bulbous Plants” (plate 12), published in 1841 by Day and Haghe London, Lithographer to Queen Victoria. The print is triple matted and elegantly framed. Dimensions; 19.5" x 18". Excellent condition. See also item number 601985 (1542B).

A large engraving of a mythological scene of Venus after her bath getting ready for a date with Adonis. The print was made by Etienne Baudet the French engraver who also worked in Rome. It is dated 1672. The print is after one of a series of 4 paintings by Francesco Albani that were commissioned by the Duke of Mantua in 1621. The painting that is the source of this print is now in the Louvre. Sight size 23 ¼ by 27 inches (59 by 68 cm), overall 28 ¼ by 32 ¼ inches (72 by 82 cm)...

A quality woodblock print on rice paper featuring young Asian males frolicking on a street, pencil signed in the lower margin below the present mat by the noted political activist-artist of South Korea, Hong Sung-Dam (born 1955). The work, about 10" by 13 3/4" inside the present mat and a bit larger under it, and 16" by 21" as framed, is signed in pencil at lower right, where there is also a red artist's stamp, and there is more writing at lower left under the mat, in Korean...

Measuring 14x11” and the frame size is 24x22”The lithograph showing a mob following the military in the city in 1900 accompanied with a description in the mat opening to the left of the print...

This is a fragment of a larger 18th century European religious painting. The painting is very well painted in oil on wood with a gesso layer and depicts Christ carrying the cross with a thorn crowned head. Dimensions: 36 cm x 14, 5 cm (14 1/8 in x 5 5/8 in). The wood and the painting has been professionally conserved to protect from further deterioration.
