George Loring Brown, Malden, Massachusetts, 1814-1889. This expensive landscape is a view of Sorrento including Mount Vesuvius in the background. This oil on canvas is 12" x 20" in a 3" 19th century frame. It is signed and titled verso very clearly and it is in very good condition with appropriate craqueleur. The edges have been reinforced but are still original. He lived in the U.S. and Europe and his more sought after paintings are those of southern Italy...

Oil on canvas painting of a young ballerina, 50" by 30" (60" by 40" as framed), signed at lower left by noted American painter SAUL SCHARY (1904-1978). This is a large and impressive work that reminds one perhaps of the painting styles of Raphael Soyer, Robert Brackman, or Robert Phillipp. The young dancer is shown in her tights against a plain background that does not distract the viewer from her lovely figure and stance...

Old oil on canvas painting of light violet colored flowers in a yellow ceramic vessel, 13 1/2" by 17" (16 1/2" by 20" framed), signed at lower right corner with what appears as "M. Lagenbrucke" or similar, and dated adjacent 1924. I have looked for an artist by this name and to date have not found any information. He/she was talented and created an attractive work...

Original ink on paper drawing of four ducks in flight over a swamp or marsh, circa 1930's, signed at lower right with initials "P.Z.", which appears to correspond with inscription on backing "Painted or sketched by Paul Zeeze". At top on backing, is written "James Zeeze". Online research suggests the name may be found in Minnesota, which would make sense with duck habitat. Measures 10" by 6 1/4" inside the mat and 14 3/4" by 10 3/4" in black strip frame.

Original Japanese woodblock print by 20th century master Jun'Ichiro Sekino (1914-1988) circa 1950s. Unusual column format (roughly 28" by 10" paper, 21" by 5" image), extremely unusual subject, signed "J. Sekino" in pencil lower right and numbered 67/100 lower left. In its original frame, not examined out of the frame but apparently in excellent condition. Sekino's woodblocks are found in the collections of most important art museums, including MOMA and the Art Institute of Chicago.

Oil on canvas painting of a fetching young red-headed girl with a doll, 24" by 18" (34" by 27 1/2" in old attractive frame), signed at lower left "P. Harwood", not dated but circa early 20th century. This is a really beautifully executed work, reminding of some of the vigorous portraits by masters like Robert Henri; but, efforts to identify the artist have not borne fruit...

Abstract mixed media on canvas, signed by Pablo Sycet and dated 1985. This work is reminiscent of French artist Pierre Bonnard, with the bold, fiery reds and yellows. Work measures 38 x 18“ and is unframed. Sycet is a well known artist in his native Spain, with works held by the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia. Berlin Estate

In 1960 Maki did the image shown. It is called Symbol. In all the years of collecting Maki prints and images I have never seen this one again. It is quite large but seems cluttered. Forty years later he did it as a print and a post card even as one friend has suggested he did the print before 1999, the date on the print. The seals are authentic not printed, and they are original Maki seals from well-used chops.

According to a Wikipedia listing, Sima was born in Czarist Russia shtetl in 1902. By 1921 he was in Odessa, Russia for art study, and the following year saw him in Dresden, Germany...
