Large charcoal on paper drawing of a head, 23" by 19" (35 1/2" by 29 1/2" in oversized framing), signed at lower right "W. NASH" in all capital letters. This appears to be the head of a woman, perhaps Orientalist subject matter. I speculated that this might be a work by the noted Santa Fe, New Mexico modernist artist Willard Nash (1898-1943), but he did not sign like this, so far as I can determine, and the subject matter would be unusual for him...

A landscape work in impressionist style, featuring a cabin in a forest, signed by listed artist DOROTHY C. NEAL. The piece is signed again on the reverse in pencil and titled there "Cabin in the Aspens/quick sketch/Panguitch Lake, Utah '52". John Gannam was an illustrator and painter who worked almost exclusively in watercolor. Gannam was born in the country of Lebanon and grew up in Chicago. He was forced to leave school and work at age 14 due to his father’s death. He went through a succession of menial jobs until he eventually became a messenger boy in an engraving house. Here, he first found a purpose for himself to become an artist like the men who did the layouts, lettering, and drawings from engravings...

Etching, 4 3/4" by 6 5/8" inside the mat, 10" by 12 1/2" in simple black strip frame, titled in pencil at left margin "A Bermuda Lane" and signed in margin in pencil at lower right by artist RAY ALLEN. I do not see a listing for an artist of this name. The work likely dates to about the 1950's I would think, and is probably still in its original frame. The impression is strong, with a distinct plate mark. Disregard false yellow colors in some of the photos, which are an effect of the camera...

This Abstract Expressionist painting dates to 1957, and it has a partial signature on the lower left corner. It measures 38" x 28" and has a small amount of paint loss. Notice the bright and unique colors and with heavy inpasto brushwork. On 5/3/04, I presented this painting to the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation for review where I had a brief meeting with the assistant director. The painting was not confirmed, however, the painting will remain under review and evaluation...

‏This is an intricate aquatint print, 25 3/4" by 29 3/4" (34" by 27 1/4" framed), signed in pencil at lower right by the artist and dated there "60", titled "Jeux d'ete" (Summer Games) at lower center, and numbered 76/210 at lower left, the work by GUILLAUME CORNELIS VAN BEVERLOO, best known by the pseudonym "CORNEILLE" (the French word for "crow"). I believe I was able to locate only one example of this particular print having sold at auction since 1998...

One of three works in my shop by the same artist, F. KENWOOD GILES of Bermuda, is this watercolor on paper painting, 14" by 19 1/2" inside the mat, 20 1/2" by 26 1/2" as framed, the subject a pink-walled, white-roofed island home on a lovely piece of property, flowering oleander shrubs and a few pines or cedars completing the happy scene. The paintings are not dated, but I believe that they would have been created in the 1950's...

A vintage study in charcoal of an infant on its back, 12" by 15" (16" by 19" framed), signed at lower right with what appears as "H Collins", and dated adjacent Sept. 14, 1953. I do not see a listed name that would correspond with this name or variants of it. The study is artistic, reminiscent of timeless Italian Renaissance drawings. There is age toning of the paper and some lighter, whitish areas at lower left, above the infant's left arm, and at lower right.

This is an original charcoal on paper portrait drawing of a young woman, 18" by 12 1/2" inside the mat (25" by 19" as framed), signed "J Floch" at lower right. His prints and drawings (see a lithograph by the artist, in my shop) are quite affordable, while paintings have brought to the $80,000 area at auction in Europe and America. Floch was born in Austria, but spent the later part of his life in the New York area. From an online biography: "Joseph Floch was born in Vienna, Austria in 1895. He ...

Everyone seems to love Paris, a city which has inspired and continues to inspire much art. This pair of watercolors, one of the elegant and timeless Place Vendome, the other the famed "Le Dome" cafe of Montparnasse, are signed by artist "Hrobel". Each measures 16" by 24" (26" by 33 1/4" as framed). The pair is ready for the wall, with clean blue mats and tasteful cream frames. The colors are not faded and there is no foxing nor water staining. Surprisingly I do not see an obvious listing fo...

A whimsical drawing of a young child-like chimpanzee seated in a parlor, evidently enjoying a cocktail, a tea kettle in the foreground suggesting that he is about to partake in other civilized human behavior. The drawing is unsigned. I researched a bit on the net to see if it might be by the artists who created Curious George, (Hans-Augusto Rey(Reyersbach) and Margret Rey), but the obvious lack of resemblance to that most famous cartoon ape indicates that this drawing is not of him. Neverthel...
