Lucille Ireland modernist abstraction - oil on board, circa 1950.

Ireland lived on the Philadelphia Main Line and exhibited at the Stabler gallery during the 1950's in NYC. She is listed in "Women Artists in America".

Image measures 22 1/2" x 33 1/4", frame is 2 1/2" wide.

Condition - very good and original, very minor paint ripple in a small center area.

A vintage study in charcoal of an infant on its back, 12" by 15" (16" by 19" framed), signed at lower right with what appears as "H Collins", and dated adjacent Sept. 14, 1953. I do not see a listed name that would correspond with this name or variants of it. The study is artistic, reminiscent of timeless Italian Renaissance drawings. There is age toning of the paper and some lighter, whitish areas at lower left, above the infant's left arm, and at lower right.

This is an original charcoal on paper portrait drawing of a young woman, 18" by 12 1/2" inside the mat (25" by 19" as framed), signed "J Floch" at lower right. His prints and drawings (see a lithograph by the artist, in my shop) are quite affordable, while paintings have brought to the $80,000 area at auction in Europe and America. Impressionist oil on canvas painting of the famous beach at Laguna Beach, California, signed at lower left by the well-listed Russian-born artist who made his home in the Southwest, CONSTANTINE CHERKAS (1919-2011). The work measures 18" by 24" (25" by 31" framed). Cherkas was born in Moscow and showed unusual early talent. He studied there and later in Vienna and Munich, his life disrupted by World War II, during which he was arrested by the Nazis and sent to a camp...

A whimsical drawing of a young child-like chimpanzee seated in a parlor, evidently enjoying a cocktail, a tea kettle in the foreground suggesting that he is about to partake in other civilized human behavior. The drawing is unsigned. I researched a bit on the net to see if it might be by the artists who created Curious George, (Hans-Augusto Rey(Reyersbach) and Margret Rey), but the obvious lack of resemblance to that most famous cartoon ape indicates that this drawing is not of him...

Vintage oil on canvas impressionist landscape with rounded low mountains, a country road passing red barns, 25" by 30" (29 1/2" by 34 1/2" framed), signed at lower right corner with what appears as "D Tutis" or "D Totis" or similar. Although the work resembles that of Vermont painter Earl A. Titus (1895-1962), the signature does not correspond with how he signed. So we have a mystery work here...

This is a beautifully executed work in charcoal, 18" by 15" (19" by 16" as framed), the subject a young girl, staring out at the viewer, likely wearing her school uniform, circa 1930's or 1940's, I am thinking. Unfortunately there is no signature. When I first saw this I thought it possible it might be by a Taos and Santa Fe master.......and I held on to it for many years, thinking I could run into another work that would unlock the mystery...

One of two works by the artist in my shop, this is an etching on paper, 8 1/2" by 11" inside the mat opening, 20" by 15 1/2" framed, signed in pencil at lower right margin "PHILIP KAPPEL", and titled at lower left margin "West Indian Grandeur---Haiti". This is a fine etching of a figure on the coast balancing a load on her head as she gazes out to sea at a clipper ship in full sail, a coconut palm leaning exotically at left...

This Abstract Expressionist painting dates to 1957, and it has a partial signature on the lower left corner. It measures 38" x 28" and has a small amount of paint loss...

This is a small etching (6 1/2" by 4 1/2", 12 1/4" by 10 1/4" in metal frame with black mat) by the noted California artist HARRIET GENE ROUDEBUSH (1908-1998), titled at lower left "Flower Stand" and pencil signed at lower right by the artist. Roudebush was born in Portland, Oregon and moved to Sacramento as a youth.
