A classic old landscape with figures, old structures and feathery trees, somewhat in the Old Master tradition, but created in the mid 19th century, likely in New York, by an unknown yet obviously accomplished artist. The oil on canvas, unframed, measures 24" by 32 1/4". On the reverse are two canvas stencil stamps, one from London, (G. Rowney & Co.), one from New York (Goupil & Co., 289 Broadway)...

A nicely done miniature, on natural wafer, of a gentleman in a black. The reverse of the case is a beautiful example of repousse work, and has an aperture with hairwork within.

The painting is in good condition, with no chips, cracks, or inpainting. The case is in excellent condition and measures 2 1/2" by 2".

Superb quality antique late 19th century finely hand painted Indian miniature painting depicting the Taj Mahal, Mausoleum of Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan and his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Set under the glass in an oval silver frame mounted in a beautifully carved solid ebony wood frame carved with floral decoration standing on two ornate feet with an easel at the back to stand. The painting itself features the classic symmetrical view of the marble structure set behind its reflecting pool...

Oil on board, measuring 13 1/2" by 13 1/2" and 1 1/2" wide gold frame, unsigned, depicting a number of California poppies vignetted against a neutral background. This is a very decorative painting of the California state flower, executed in late Victorian times or early 20th century when such paintings were all the vogue. This one has survived in excellent condition and would be perfect for a Mission, Arts and Crafts, or Southwest style interior. Frame has small losses.

Oil on canvas laid on board painting of a traditionally-dressed woman, facing away from the viewer, balancing a water jug on her head while walking in a rural setting. The work measures 13" by 10" framed and there is no apparent signature. I opened the backing and see that the canvas has been laid directly on a board. The painting might date to approximately the 1860's; similarly dressed figures are seen in mid nineteenth century paintings of the Roman campagna...

Oil on canvas painting (29 1/2" by 23", and 34" by 27 1/2" framed) of hunted ducks suspended from a nail, and two other colorful, deceased birds arrayed outside a window on a weathered Mediterranean wall, a mischievous cat emerging from that window at lower left to do what cats do. The painting is signed at lower right by the noted Italian late 19th century artist MICHELANGELO MEUCCI (1840-1909), who specialized in just this sort of view...

A very fine American portrait miniature painting, on natural organic material, of a young man attired in the latest fashion of his period, wearing a brown vest and velvet collar coat.

The miniature is 2 inches by 1 1/2 inches sight size and the deep purple velvet-lined thermoplastic case it is in is 3 inches by 2 1/2 inches. The piece is in superb condition, with no cracks, chips, bowing, or inpainting...

A pencil drawing (and touches of white gouache) of the scenery with figures in a small rowboat, around the northeastern end of New York State's Lake George, notably the prominent "Anthony's Nose" feature, dated 1840 at lower right and titled there "L. George". There is no artist signature. This is an exceptionally early work and it would be interesting to know the identity of the artist...

Truly old nineteenth century oil painting, 29" by 24 3/4" (32" by 27 3/4" framed), apparently unsigned, the subject probably Mary Magdalene, an extensive landscape visible at distant right. The painting's precise age is difficult to pinpoint, but mid 19th century would be close to the mark. No doubt it is a copy after an original Italian master work of the 16th century...

Fine early pencil drawing on wove paper, the subject a distant view of Windsor Castle and the Thames River (favorite subject of so many, many artists), signed at lower right "James M. Hart" and dated there 1855. This is a rather early work of JAMES MACDOUGAL HART (1828-1901) of later Hudson River School fame. Hart's major large scale landscape paintings have reached into six figures at auction, and sales in the tens of thousands are not unusual...

Found recently in Maine, this is an antique oil on board painting, 12" by 14 3/4" as framed, unsigned, the subject purple grapes and a ripe peach, the autumnal grape leaf suggesting the season of harvest, all on a marble ledge or table, with a distant view beyond. The gray academy board, style and framing suggest a date of execution of about 1880. The painting is very American in feeling, bordering on folk art as there's a naivete. The frame has wear and an obvious loss at lower left corner...

Original Victorian mourning graphite drawing of a dog protecting child from a raven. Signed in pencil by artist. In very good condition. Not inspected out of frame, but there is some age related foxing around the bird. Measures in frame 27" x 21".

A beautiful pencil drawing of human hands, likely 19th century, measuring 4 1/2" by 5 1/2" inside the ornate French mat, 10 1/4" by 11 1/4" as framed in gilt closed corner framing. There is a little wear in the corners of the frame but the overall look with mat and frame is upscale...

Three drawings in pencil on gray-blue paper, each 7 1/2" by 12" approximately inside the mat, all of coastal scenes with multiple figures, sailing ships and even dogs and donkeys...
