Orlando Norie (1832–1901), artist of military subjects, perhaps the most prolific painter of the British army in the 19th century along with Richard Simkin. It has been estimated that Norie alone painted well over 5,000 pictures. Watercolor on paper river fantasy scene set in the tropics, 10 1/2" by 22" and 3" wide circa early 20th century frame in very good condition, signed at lower right "W W COWELL" and dated 18(last two digits not easily discernible, possibly "189_" or could be "1879"). A circa turn of the century oil on canvas painting of a creek and surrounding woods in the autumn of the year, 11 1/2" by 22 1/2", on canvas, and 17 1/2" by 29" in likely original frame, apparently unsigned. The work has survived over a century in excellent condition. No punctures or problems. There are a few chips missing from the frame. A pleasing, easy to live with scene that brings a sense of calm and reflection.

A beautiful pair of miniature portraits, both signed Fuger, painted in watercolors on organic material. In addition, the elaborate frames are made out of this same natural material, something rarely, if ever, seen. The sitters, in 18th century attire, are a young gent and lady posed against a blue sky with foliage and hills behind them.

Notes on the backs of the frames provide the following information: "These miniatures were bought by Ellen Franklin in antique shop Bellagio Italy in 1929...

An antique 19th-century Russian Orthodox icon depicts the most central event in Christianity, the Nativity of our Lord Christ.

The icon is finely hand-painted in bright colors and gold on gesso on a wood panel. It depicts Baby Jesus laying in the cradle in a manger wrapped in swaddling clothes, with a Bethlehem star shining from above, flanked by the Virgin Mary and St Joseph.
