Poem 71-71 is a Maki depiction of 子 Child and is one of those large red kanji on a black background that Daniel Tretiak valled a Big Red. This one measures 12in W by 17.5in H and is no.13 of an edition of 153. It is in excellent condition.

Dramatic kanji, sun and splash--this small print epitomizes the Maki style at its height. The kanji streaks across the print, now it is blue now it is black.There is a strong black sun and a sharp yellow plash--and the Maki seal. Yet it is not crowded. The Maki seal at the right is a roll, the Maki of his name.

This is the original 1974 watercolor painting of The Rice Mill by Hubert Shuptrine which can be found in the book JERICHO The South Beheld, Published 1974. The size is 22 1/4" X 25 7/8". On the back of the original frame is an Exhibition Label marked Hunter Museum of Art Oct. 12, 1977.

I first saw this print in a small pamphlet from White Lotus Gallery in Oregon, acquired the print in ways that Du Yuesheng would be proud of and it has rested here for over two years It is a small print but it packs a punch. It shows a prancing dancing woman. What do you think? The kanji in the center of the print is set off by a tear at the left and a sun at the right. It measures 5.75” x 8.5”.
