Signed and numbered 25/35, this unframed limited edition lithograph by Spratling titled TIERRA CALIENTE was produced in 1931 from his original drawing for his book LITTLE MEXICO. The lithograph measures 16" X 11.5". The landscape image is about 8.5" X 8". This is one of 7 lithographs we purchased from Weyhe Gallery in NY in 1995. A nicely painted waist length portrait, done on organic material, of an attractive woman with dark brown eyes and hair. The sitter, posed in front of a reddish-brown drape, is wearing a black gown with a lace collar cinched with a brooch matching her earrings. A gold chain with two pendants completes her outfit. Presented in a later gilt frame.

The painting is in excellent condition with no issues. The sight size is 2 1/2" by 2" and the framed size is 5 1/2" by 4 1/2".

For the dog aficionado, especially those who prize the terriers, a 24" by 30" pastel of two white dogs lounging most comfortably on cushions in an upscale interior, while staring out placidly at the viewer. The piece is apparently signed in monogram at upper right within the oval, the monogram seemingly "AVB" or something similar. For a time I thought the work unsigned, but, the monogram does indeed appear to be a signature...

An example of the scarce "sur blanc" lithograph prints of famed French caricaturist and satirist artist HONORE DAUMIER (1808-1879), the 1851 print from the "Actualites" series, and Le Charivari.
