Oil on canvas impressionist still life of flowers, 24" by 30" (30" by 36" in the vintage, period frame), signed at lower right by listed California artist Edwin L. Forker (1876-1958). Born in Pennsylvania, Forker was in California by 1918. He is known today for the body of decorative paintings he left for posterity. This work is in excellent condition, having come directly from a West Los Angeles house where it was displayed for many years.

It shows the equestrian Statue of George Washington surrounded with a wreath, composed of the principle agricultural products of the Confederacy--cotton, tobacco, sugar cane, corn, wheat and rice. Plate signed etching, 13" by 10 1/4" inside the mat, the sheet 16" by 13 3/4", titled "Rue de la Glaciere", 1937, by the famous and important French modern artist MAURICE de VLAMINCK (1876-1958). The original edition is given as 400 or 500 examples; later restrikes might exist. I do not know if this might be one of them. A circa 1920's to 1940's old reprint of the much-loved classic Currier and Ives lithograph "American Winter Scenes", with a horse-drawn sleigh heading towards the snug home at right in which a party appears to be held. The piece measures 23 1/2" by 30 1/2" in what I believe is a birdseye maple frame. Condition is very good, vintage condition. The original 19th century lithograph is very expensive; this reasonable alternative will provide the same decorative punch.
