The etching likely dates to about the 1930's or 1940's, I believe. Vaughan was born in Boston of blue blood stock (relatives were with George Washington at Valley Forge)...

This is a hand painted original work, the subject a newly married couple, he in Edwardian (??) formal coat and medals and monocle, she in traditional white with a corsage. The image was either intentionally cut out by the artist and pasted onto a board which was in turn pasted onto a light green silky surface, or someone has subsequently decided on this presentation. Currently the figures therefore stand out in something of a three dimensional manner from the background...

This is an appealing little sketch, oil on board of a landscape with a line of trees, a tawny field, a few structures and an extensive view beyond, unsigned, circa 1940's or 1950's. It is obviously by a talented artist who failed to sign his or her name. Perhaps it is a study for a more finished painting to come. Measuring 12" by 16", it should be easy to find a (common, "standard size") suitable frame. Condition is good save for a stubbed, worn corner at upper extreme right, as shown.

I do not see any listings for this artist, who obviously had a solid command of painting. The work was likely created circa 1960's. This is an engraving of the year 1821, measuring 13" by 10 1/2" (23" by 20" framed), formerly thought to depict Jeanne d'Aragon but now believed to be Dona Isabel de Requesens y Enriques de Cardon-Anglesona, the image developed by Pierre Bouillon (1776-1831), engraved by Raphael Morghen (1758-1833), after a circa 1500 painting with elements by Raphael Sanzio and Giulio Romano. The lady of means is seen in 3/4 view, her royal garments shown in impressive detail, a view to a loggia beyond, and ca...
All Items : Fine Art : Paintings : Oil : Europe : Pre 1970 item #1420180 (stock #JB03002)
Impressionist oil on wood panel painting of coastal islands and a religious shrine perched on a scenic rise, 13 3/4" by 16 3/4" as framed, signed in Greek at lower right. This work has some age, dating perhaps to mid-century. The surface is a bit soiled and the frame has some wear at top corners as seen. A Greek speaker has seen the signature and advises me it reads "Kaitatze" in English, or similar.

Oil on canvas painting of a forest in autumn or possibly winter, 13" by 20" (16" by 23" framed), not signed on front but inscribed on canvas reverse "Hommage reconnaissance a M. Fr. Tompkins/J. Caron/1909". A title also appears there, "Sous Bois en XXXXX" (unreadable). This is a highly impressionistic work by listed Belgian artist JOSEPH CARON (1866-1944). Caron appears to have painted primarily landscapes, almost always with an impressionist hand. The impressionistic brushwork in this exam...

PAIR of English landscape oil on canvas landscape paintings, each including a cottage, a figure (one fishing off a small bridge, the other walking towards the cottage), and feathery trees, each 9" by 16" (18" by 25" framed), one inscribed in ink on the stretcher "Sketch in Kent C.J. Riley". If we assume that this be the artist, I am unable to find a listing for such a name. The style suggests a date of circa 1870's. Compare the works to cottage/landscape paintings by English artist who signe...
All Items : Fine Art : Paintings : Watercolor : Pre 1980 item #1420155 (stock #JB02834)
Watercolor on paper painting of a vase and flowers, 14 3/4" by 11 1/4" (21" by 16 1/2" framed), signed at lower right "L. Hirsch" and dated there 1979. I do not think the artist is listed but he or she has displayed considerable talent in creating this decorative and attractive work. The frame shows a little wear but is presentable overall. There is a handwritten label on the reverse, showing the title "FLOWERS AND FRUIT", and it appears that the word "Mexico" is included at the very bottom (...

This is a finely executed watercolor of a seated woman, perhaps in a studio, her props including a metal or ceramic vessel and a draped table, apparently unsigned, and drawn in the later years of the 19th century. The work measures 11 1/2" by 8" inside the old faded red mat, and 20" by 16 1/2" in its modern frame. I opened this up in hopes of finding a signature or other information, but the paper is laid down securely to a board and there is nothing to be seen. I think it likely by an Italia...

An Italian Old Master red chalk drawing of a putto, 8 3/4" by 6", 12 3/4" by 11 1/4" nicely framed with inner gold fillet and quality frame from Munn in Los Angeles. The work is unsigned and unattributed. Likely early 18th century. There is some soiling at top left, right center and near the lower portion, two vertical folds and more light folds at upper left, and a small abrasion of paper, seen as white area, near nose area, all as seen in photos.

Gouache and watercolor on smooth side of Masonite painting of a merchant ship in a stormy sea, 11 1/2" by 15 3/4" (18" by 22" as framed---no glass), signed at lower right "HINGER" (California artist Richard Hinger, born 1937). The work is technically excellent, leading one to think it a print, but I guarantee this to be an original work. Hinger is a Pittsburgh native, but for a number of years has been creating art in California, with Indian themes, landscape and portraits favorite subject ma...
All Items : Fine Art : Paintings : Pastel : Pre 1960 item #1420141 (stock #JB02994)
Old vintage pastel on paper drawing of a New England landscape in the fall, including a white 19th century house and a lone figure, 12" by 9" (15 1/2" by 12 1/2" framed), no glass, signed very faintly at lower right corner as (I believe) "F. Will" (or, T. Will, or T. or F. Wills). I do not think the artist is the listed Frank-Will. This particular scene seems to be after a well known original by a noted American artist. I have encountered versions of it by any number of artists, but have not...
All Items : Fine Art : Paintings : Watercolor : Pre 1980 item #1420140 (stock #JB03060)
Large watercolor painting of a peaceful lane or street, buildings suggesting Hispanic origin mixing with the lush vegetation, 21" by 30" (31" by 39" nicely framed, with museum glass, yet), signed at lower right "H. Brzezinski". At first glance I considered the possibility that the scene might be Santa Fe, New Mexico, since "Calle de las Animas", sounding Santa Fe-ish, is written in ink on the framer's label, and the scene had a somewhat Santa Fe look and so forth, but having googled the street ...
All Items : Fine Art : Paintings : Watercolor : Pre 1900 item #1420139 (stock #JB03121)
Watercolor on paper laid on thin card painting of a fetching, dark-haired young woman, apparently in Venice (tiny gondola/architecture at far right), holding spring flowers at the water's edge, " by ", and signed at right center "E. LARRI". I do not see a listing by this name but he/she worked squarely in the tradition of 19th century Italian watercolor art. The piece was in a nondescript frame when found, and backed by curling old acidic wood. I have removed it from the frame for photography...
