An impressive watercolor landscape with Italian looking tree at left and extensive vista at right with small figures visible, unsigned on the front, but on the reverse is written in old pencil hand "Childe Harold's Pilgrimage" after JMW Turner by J Glen". This is therefore a 19th century work after a famous painting of Turner by that title, first exhibited in 1832...

Watercolor and ink drawing of the Seine in Paris by Notre Dame, 7" by 8 3/4" (13" by 15" framed), signed at lower left in pencil "Leprin". This COULD be a work by well listed artist MARCEL LEPRIN (1891-1933). I hesitate to state unequivocally that it is, as the long hand signature differs from the commonly seen all-capital letters version. The artist was known to do very similar works of Paris, and many other parts of France, from Normandy to Marseilles...

Everyone seems to love Paris, a city which has inspired and continues to inspire much art. This pair of watercolors, one of the elegant and timeless Place Vendome, the other the famed "Le Dome" cafe of Montparnasse, are signed by artist "Hrobel". Each measures 16" by 24" (26" by 33 1/4" as framed). The pair is ready for the wall, with clean blue mats and tasteful cream frames. The colors are not faded and there is no foxing nor water staining...

This is a larger (22" by 30", 30" by 37" framed) attractive, mixed media drawing on quality heavy paper, a subtle modern work, the colors and tiny background squares reminding of the popular works of artist Robert Natkin. This work is signed in pencil by the artist at the lower right, and is dated there 1983. Despite my best efforts I am unable to read the signature, which looks something like "Christylu Walsh", but this is a wild guess...

A very striking modern composition, the imagery incorporating a female figure, a bird, a boat, and a snake, all complemented by patches of blue, red and yellow, signed at lower right by noted Uruguayan-born artist YAMANDU CANOSA (born 1954). The work in mixed media (gouache, and sparkle mixed throughout), measures 18 3/4" by 24 1/2" (25" by 31" in attractive black frame with gray mat). Canosa was born in Montevideo, Uruguay and studied there as a youth...

Contemporary Australian aboriginal art "dot" painting, acrylic on a thin canvas, signed on the reverse by artist POLLY PUNTJUNTA, and stamped with the Original Aboriginal Art Company stamp, of Adelaide, South Australia. The work measures 15" by 26 1/2" (23" by 34" in a wood frame with scratches). The past framer elected to place the reverse wire so as to hang this vertically, though I do not believe there is any particular reason to have done so. The work might be more logically horizontal...

Original signed poster for the Whitney Museum showing of "For Example", a 1972 movie by Shusaku Arakawa (1936-2010), from the Mechanism of Meaning project by Arakawa and Madeline Gins. This framed poster is in excellent framed condition and is signed in pencil lower right by both artists. We also have an original mixed media painting by Arakawa available, from the early sixties. Both pieces come from the same New York estate.

Watercolor on paper laid on thin card painting of a fetching, dark-haired young woman, apparently in Venice (tiny gondola/architecture at far right), holding spring flowers at the water's edge, " by ", and signed at right center "E. LARRI". I do not see a listing by this name but he/she worked squarely in the tradition of 19th century Italian watercolor art. The piece was in a nondescript frame when found, and backed by curling old acidic wood. I have removed it from the frame for photography...

A gray soapstone carving of a seal, carrying his seal trophy, signed "Jacopee" on the bottom, the official familiar small label of "Canada Eskimo Art" remaining. The dimensions are roughly 10 1/2" by 4 1/2" by 3", and weight fully 5 pounds. These carvings sold as tourist art at mid century remain popular, and a secondary market has evolved. From our African Collection: an African Ewe Figure from Eastern Ghana from the mid 20th century. The Ewe are one of Ghana's five main ethnic groups (United States Jan. 2002) and reside mainly in the southeast region of the country (Ethnologue July 2002) but also inhabit the southern half of Togo (Ewe Culture 2002). An old (circa 1900, perhaps earlier) oil on canvas laid on a Masonite panel, 19 1/2" by 15 1/2" (24 1/2" by 20 1/2" framed), signed at center left with conjoined initials "AF" (or, possibly, AT). The work features an older man wearing gold-rimmed spectacles, his white moustache and beard adding considerable character to this individual, who looks like a professor or other man of wisdom, accomplishment, and achievement.
