The work is signed at lower right by the talented contemporary Russian gallery artist NIKOLAI TROSCHENKOV (1961-) and dated there 1989, and at lower left, I'm told, is the name of the town (all this related to me by Russian speakers)...

Oil on canvas still life of white flowers in a vase on a table top, a decorative curtain at left, 30" by 25", unframed, signed at lower left and inscribed there "For Mother & Dad", by the listed California artist EUGENE DUNLAP (1916-1999). Dunlap studied with the likes of Jack Wilkinson Smith, J. Mason Reeves and Nell Walker Warner. An exhibitor at the Golden Gate International Exhibition in 1939, he for a good part of his life was a part of the Laguna Beach art scene...

Contemporary pencil and watercolor drawing in simple metal gold framing, the subject two women apparently dancing in a late 19th century cafe, the drawing 8 1/2" by 5 1/4" inside the mat (the entire sheet significantly larger, at 11 3/4" by 8 1/4"), signed at lower right "Dan" or "Han" or similar. The scene reminds of George Grosz' 1920's drawings of Berlin cafe goers, or even Toulouse Lautrec's Parisian cafe's. The drawing is nicely crafted.

Mid nineteenth century watercolor, gouache and gum arabic drawing on paper of a young woman with the ringlet hair and prim dark dress fashionable at the time, holding the back of a Hitchcock chair, all against an extensive landscape. The drawing measures 6" by 4 1/4" inside the mat, and comes with a newish 1" wide gold colored frame. I don't see a signature. The gum arabic has oxidized and aged and is crackly, with tiny losses in the sleeve, and her lower face has lost some detail...

Vernay's birth/death dates are suspect, or possibly confused with those of her brother, artist Francois Joseph Vernay; one source lists hers as 1864-1950, the same as her brother's. A contemporary watercolor painting of a flowering shrub, unsigned, 12" by 18" (20" by 26" in attractive gold frame in good condition), possibly of east coast origin as the framer's sticker is from Boston. This reminds somewhat of mountain laurel, the state flower of Connecticut, but that is pure speculation (mountain laurel is usually more white though there are pink and dark pink varieties). A decorative painting on a fragment of unstretched canvas, a slightly irregular shape, but almost square at 12 3/4" by 12", unsigned, in the famous drip and splatter/splash style of famed Abstract Expressionist Sam Francis (1923-1994). The work is housed temporarily in a protective-only simple black frame. The paint is likely acrylic. The work is a lot less expensive than a real Sam Francis.

Impressionist American painting of a beautiful landscape in late spring or early summer, unframed, unsigned, contemporary, likely acrylic, on canvas laid down on a foamboard, measuring 20" by 24".
