Best known for his prints, Akiyama Iwao produced paintings even later in his career, as well as occasionally painted on ceramics. Sake cup is sealed by the potter, but seal is obscured by glaze, and Akiyama’s signature and remains unread...

An absolutely charming painting, done in watercolor and gouache on organic wafer, of a male toddler. A label on the reverse states "J.C. Holt/at 1 yr./1831".

Housed in its original gold case, neither the painting or the case have any condition problems at all. The size is 1 3/4" by 1 1/2".

Oil on canvas painting, 24" by 36" (30" by 42" framed), late 20th century, the subject a family of elephants at an African waterhole, signed at lower right by listed artist DON ERDMAN (sometimes spelled as ERDMANN). The work is similar to works by better known artists such as David Shepherd or Bob Kuhn which bring thousands of dollars. Erdman is listed in Davenport's, but I am hard pressed to find more information on him...
