Very large (48" by 48", unframed), decorative, attention-getting oil on canvas of a family of three musician performers in a park setting, painted in a humorous fashion, the family in costume and appearing clown-like, by the French mid century impressionist artist ROGER ETIENNE (1922-2011). The painting is titled on the reverse "Jour de Fete" (Holiday), inscribed "Pour Renon", and signed by the artist and dated 1972...

From our Fine Arts and Americana Collection, a fine original watercolor painting from Miraflores Peru, depicting a beguiling image of a single solitary front door. Lending itself to all sorts of interpretation, we ordinarily do not gravitate towards watercolor as an artistic medium, but this unusual piece had a certain draw to it. Jean Baptiste Camille Corot 1796-1875 French This is a fine rich impression of the well known Corot etching Souvenir of Italy, this was first created in 1863, and printed in three states, including later ones with the publishers information at the bottom edge of the sheet. This one does not have that so may be an earlier or possibly later impression. The image measures 12 9/16X9 3/8 inches, printed on an antique laid type paper. Very fine condition, matted not framed...

A PAIR of very desirable prints in unusually fine condition, (not examined out of frame, but appearance as presented is superb), pencil signed at lower right near the red artist seal, by the important French-Japanese printmaker artist PAUL JACOULET (1902-1960). Measurements inside the mat are 15" by 11 1/4" (23" by 16 1/4" in black strip frames). Note the prevalent silver mica in the field background, one of the revolutionary techniques for which Jacoulet is revered among print collectors...

The Baule create art in several media, including wooden sculpture, gold and brass casting similar to their Asante ancestors, and mask and figure carving, which have been greatly influenced by their Senufo and Guro neighbors. The Baule belong to the Akan peoples who inhabit Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire. Three hundred years ago the Baule people migrated westward from Ghana when the Asante rose to power...

Oil on canvas portrait of a middle aged man seen in profile, not signed on the front, possibly signed on the reverse, 20" by 16", unframed. The man appears to be a clerk in his work clothes, circa 1910 to mid 1930 perhaps. On the reverse written faintly on the canvas is "WM. HODES FRANKLIN" or similar--. Below that is what appears to be "BRACKMAN"...

A rare original drawing, dated January 1849, titled in margin at lower center "Jackall Hunting in India", by listed England-born Australian 19th century artist HENRY GILBERT-JONES (1804-1888). The watercolor measures 13 1/2" by 19 1/2" (18 1/4" by 26" in lemon-gold frame). This appears at first like a classic traditional sporting art print of fox hunting, but closer examination reveals it is in fact a highly detailed early watercolor and ink drawing...

Antique (circa mid 19th century) watercolor and ink drawing, of the famous ruins of Palmyra, Syria, which were partially damaged during the relatively recent ISIS occupation of the archaeological site. Research indicates the piece is after an early 19th century print. Artist is anonymous. Dimensions are 9 3/4" by 14 3/4" inside the mat (with hand drawn lines) and 16" by 20" overall (unframed, just in the mat, which is laid down over the art). On reverse someone once wrote "Palmyra Turkey"...

A PAIR of large prints, each 30" by 22" (32" by 24 3/4" as framed), one titled "Harbour View Opahi" (a bay north of Auckland), the other "Harbour View Rangitoto Island" (the famous volcanic island near Auckland, that print numbered 17/30) by the well-known longtime New Zealand printmaker, RODNEY FUMPSTON (1947-). Fumpston was born in Fiji. He was educated in art at the prestigious Elam School in Auckland, as well as in London...
