From our Southeast Asia Collection, a superb original and signed acrylic painting on canvas depicting an Indonesian Barong Dance. Though this particular piece does not share the same museum provenance as our other Barong Dance offering (see item # 938720), we think it is at least of equal merit. Some may even think it is superior...

One of two works in my shop by apparently the same artist, (acquired at different times---the other JB01670): a watercolor on paper, 10 3/4" by 7 1/2" (17" by 14" in its simple green frame), signed illegibly (faint, at lower right), the subject a Spanish (most likely) church tower, the foreground dominated by impressive arches and columns. I have included three photos of the faint signature and leave it to the viewer to try to decipher it...

Watercolor painting of roses in a pitcher, candlesticks and furniture completing the arrangement, an interesting patterned light from the window panes streaming in at an angle, signed at lower right by contemporary artist "T. Williams" and dated 1998. The work measures 20 1/4" by 27" (31" by 38" in wood framing). This is extremely clean and fresh and ready for display. I do not have a handle at this time on the identity of the artist, but the work was purchased in San Diego.

**One of a number of works by the artist in my shop** This is a watercolor drawing....an outside possibility that it is a monotype (drawing made on glass or other surface, then pressed into paper, and therefore a unique work) by the noted 20th century French artist CHARLES LEVIER (1920-2003). Measurements are 18"by 13 3/4" (27" by 21 1/2" as framed). Condition is excellent with colors fresh and bright. Levier of course is a well known figure in twentieth century contemporary art...

Washington DC artist Paco Lane,known for his constant pushing forward of styles and from the Lane brother and sister artist family. This work is from his cubist period that was short lived. An unusually beautiful and impressive example of Vietnamese lacquer painting, an art form that goes back many centuries in China and Southeast Asia. The technical process is very complex, involving application of multiple layers. This panel, unframed, measures 15 1/2" by 23 1/4" and it is not signed. Note the gold showing through in many areas, and the detail of the figures and general atmosphere and luminosity created by the artist in a notoriously difficult medium.

Apparently unsigned watercolor on heavy paper painting of an arid landscape in the American Southwest, including a distant mountain, barbed wire fencing at a dirt crossroads, and fading evening clouds, 14" by 17 1/2" as framed in a faux burl frame. When I first saw the image I was reminded of some of the watercolor art of Peter Hurd---the memorable scenes he painted of New Mexico. There is no evidence that he painted this one, but perhaps the artist was inspired by Hurd's imagery...
