A simple yet satisfying little watercolor depicting central Paris along the river Seine, Notre Dame in the center distance. The work is signed at lower left by French mid century artist Fernand Guignier and dated there 1966. Guignier is listed, with some auction records, but there does not appear to be an extensive biography. Oil on canvas, 20" by 27" and simple wood frame 1 1/4" wide on a side, the subject a ceramic vase with exotic bird motif, on a tabletop, the vase and surrounding area filled with various flowers including carnations, hydrangeas, roses of various colors, and perhaps goldenrod. The work is signed at lower right "G Cocco" (GIUSEPPE COCCO 1879-1963), a listed painter from Naples, Italy. Cocco's signature is hard to decipher and as a result I think he is less known than he should be...

Newman was born in Poland but was in the US as a boy. In his late teens he met such artists as the Soyers, Peter Blume, and Chaim Gross at The Educational Alliance Art School in New York City...

A painting of the California desert, painted in impressionist style, oil on canvasboard, 14" by 18", unframed, titled on reverse in old hand, "Palm Desert Cal. Smoke Trees". The artist was born in Illinois, working in St. Louis before moving to Southern California in 1918. He studied at Scripps College in Claremont east of Los Angeles. Wheeler started painting rather late in life, at 50, according to a label with biography affixed to the reverse side...

This is an appealing little sketch, oil on board of a landscape with a line of trees, a tawny field, a few structures and an extensive view beyond, unsigned, circa 1940's or 1950's. It is obviously by a talented artist who failed to sign his or her name. Perhaps it is a study for a more finished painting to come. Measuring 12" by 16", it should be easy to find a (common, "standard size") suitable frame. Condition is good save for a stubbed, worn corner at upper extreme right, as shown.

‏This is an intricate aquatint print, 25 3/4" by 29 3/4" (34" by 27 1/4" framed), signed in pencil at lower right by the artist and dated there "60", titled "Jeux d'ete" (Summer Games) at lower center, and numbered 76/210 at lower left, the work by GUILLAUME CORNELIS VAN BEVERLOO, best known by the pseudonym "CORNEILLE" (the French word for "crow"). I believe I was able to locate only one example of this particular print having sold at auction since 1998...

For the last four years, I have researched every aspect of this self-portrait to confirm its artist identity!! Today, I can confirm the artist of this self-portrait, it is ROY FOX LICHTENSTEIN!! I was able to match the 1956 signature to the “rather primitive notion of patterned linear repetition”, or unknown markings (which look like Hebrew) on the side of an airplane in the RFL’s drawing “AIRPLANE 1961”.
