Really well executed watercolor of a classic American town's streets and buildings, as seen from a bird's eye view on a gray, snowy winter day, 14" by 11 1/2" inside the present mat, unframed, signed at lower left by artist Warren Blackwell, and dated there 1948. It is surprising that there seems to be no information available on the artist, as his handling of the medium is so skilled and advanced...

Eye-catching patinated bronze swan statue on a black marble base.. This curvilinear design is reminiscent of the Art Deco period. The edges of the marble base are beveled and the corners are rounded; it all feels very smooth. Unsigned, there was green felt on the bottom that was removed, but enough remains that it will protect a wood surface from scratching. In excellent condition, it measures 16.12ʺ long × 4.12ʺ deep × 11.75ʺ high.

American regionalist painter Robert Walker (1920 - 1990) painted this study of 3 pears as a watercolor on heavy paper. The seeming simplicity of this work belies a great power of observation and sensitivity of even the most mundane.

This work was done in 1949, during the early years of Walker's career who was born in Alameda, California. His works often soar on the simplicity which made 20th century American justly famous...

Oil on canvas, 24" by 36" (28" by 39" as framed), UNSIGNED, but certainly by the popular listed California artist HERBERT SARTELLE (1885-1955) (I will stand by this). This is a classic mountain scene favored by the artist (he seems to have painted that particular mountain over and over again), with large eucalyptus trees and a lake with distant mountains, all executed in Sartelle's unique impressionistic style and characteristic color palette. The painting probably dates to the 1940s or 1950s...

By the hand of listed American artist HUGO MELVILLE FISHER (1876-1946), an impressive oil on canvas painting of the vegetated banks of a river on a spring day, 23" by 27" (31" by 35" attractively framed), signed at lower right corner in red. The impressionist, rich, IMPASTO technique (as in the tree's leaves) is impressive and skilled. Fisher, the son of artist Hugo Anton Fisher, was born in Brooklyn in 1876, moving to Alameda, California at age 8. He spent two years in Hawaii...

Oil on canvas laid on board painting of the Grand Canyon, 17" by 21" (20" by 24" as framed), apparently unsigned, circa 1940's, possibly earlier, executed in a naive manner that borders on or crosses the line to folk art. I think the technique is intentionally naive and primitive, as opposed to just the less-refined work of an amateur artist. The frame (see close-up) adds to the folk art aspects. This is a fine addition to your Southwest or Southwest folk art collection.

One of a number of prints by this artist in my inventory, this is a fresh and clean rather early example of one of William Russell Flint's fine color reproductions issued in limited editions for collectors over a period of decades. Oil on board, 14 1/2" by 20 1/2" as framed, unsigned, the subject an extensive hilly landscape with distant structures. I believe the scene is more than likely American. The painting could use a cleaning as there is discolored varnish, causing the colors to appear more brown and less blue/white in the sky. There is some soiling at top mostly and a small 1/8" or less pressure mark at center in the sky. Overall this painting makes for a pleasant and decorative landscape. A wider frame would wo...

This atmospheric etching is a great example of the delicate lines precise detail for which Arms was known. This image won several awards in the early 1940s; the Mrs. Henry F Noyes Memorial Prize for best print at the 27th Annual Exhibition of the Society of American...
