Something of a mystery piece......a black and white photo, 12 5/8" by 11" including thin margins on three sides, (in a temporary protective-only frame), unsigned and unattributed, in a frame which bears old Christie's Los Angeles photo department sale and lot information that does not correspond with the image (I checked with Christie's photographs dept). The image of the moving train is in black and white though there is a hint of a pink/violet tint in a portion of the train sides...

An impressionist still life of vase and flowers on a table top in an interior, 23 1/2" by 17 1/2" (29" by 22 3/4" framed), signed at lower right by artist HAIG ALTOUN and dated there 1940. The work is beautifully executed by a trained hand but strangely I do not see a listing for an artist by this name, which is of Armenian extraction. Condition is excellent.

Here is a prize for the collector of Californiana----an idealized view of a mission in the golden days of yore, painted around 1935 I would guess. The Culebra Range is in extreme southern Colorado, very near the New Mexico border and not far from Taos. Woodblock on very thin, delicate Japan type paper, 14 1/2" by 10" inside the old mat, signed at lower right margin in Hebrew, numbered there 53/100, (part of the numbering apparently in green ink), the subject a holy or religious Jewish orthodox man with traditional clothing and hair style. I am not able to read the Hebrew and a friend who can was not able to decipher the writing. Regardless of artist name, the print is beautifully conceived and executed...
