Georges Lucien Boichard 19th Century French Portrait Painter This is an original oil on mahogany Panel by French artist Georges Lucien Boichard. This painting is signed and dated 1883 upper right. The painting measures 13 1/4X9 1/4 inches. It is housed in a period gilt frame with added inner liner. Boichard was a well known French Portrait artist. He lived in Paris and his work was accepted to the Paris Salon in 1880. The overall frame measures 23X19 inches.

A plaster of Paris sculpture of St. John the Baptist as a child, sleeping. The boy dressed in camel skin is leaning on a rock, cross in hand and a lamb at his feet. France, mid-19th century, with nice patina and traces of a light blue colouring. Plaster of Paris was a gypsum or chalk mixture used for architectural and art purposes from the beginning of the 19th century and small sculptures, especially with religious themes, were widely exported. 19th Century American, "Landscape with Waterfalls". This is a very fine Hudson River School landscape, oil on academy board, 9 3/4 x 18 3/4 inches, c. 1880s, unsigned, in an ornate period gilt frame. Although this painting is unsigned it is quite well painted, evidently by a very competent artist.

A turn of the century oil of red roses, signed at lower right "Myrtle Crittenden". There is a "Miss M. Crittenden" listed in Hughes' dictionary of California artists, and she was noted there to have exhibited at the California state fair in 1881. A total of FOUR watercolor paintings, framed as pairs, in two frames, each watercolor 10" by 4 7/8", each frame 17 3/4" by 17 3/4". All of the watercolors are signed at lower left with initials "FD". Judging from the scenes, these are likely Northern European and of late nineteenth century date. Condition is excellent, one frame has a little nick at top right. Some research may help determine the identity of the artist.
