Gouache on paper painting (9 1/2" by 20", and 18" by 28" as framed) of the world-famous Rialto Bridge spanning the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy, signed at lower right and dated there 1889 by the well known American 19th century painter EDMUND DARCH LEWIS (1835-1910). The artist painted from Maryland to Maine, visited Cuba and Italy, and even apparently spent a short time on the Pacific coast at Monterey, California...

Oil on canvas still life of peaches and compote in the East Coast style of the latter part of the 19th century, 21" by 27", presently unframed, signed at lower left "C H Harmon" and dated what appears to be 1880 (or, 1880 something, difficult to read last digit). Watercolor en grisaille drawing of the ornate entry area of a 19th century American home, complete with trellis, shutters, clapboard and fine woodwork, unsigned, measuring 18" by 14" (20 1/2" by 16 7/8" framed in brown wood frame. There is also a pencil study of the doorway on the reverse (see last photo). Any number of artists could have created this. It reminds me of a home you'd see in a watercolor by Edward Lamson Henry. I'd date this to about 1910 through 1930...

For the eclectic collector of 19th century American folk art, this is an oil on canvas, as framed in the original gilt, measuring 26 1/2" by 37 1/2" overall. Unsigned fine old nineteenth century ink and watercolor drawing of a great tree presiding over a pleasant forested landscape, two tiny figures at right and a small wooden structure at left providing the only evidence of human presence. The watercolor, 14 1/2" by 10 1/2" inside the mat, 24 1/2" by 21" framed, is probably English or continental European, and circa 1860's or thereabouts. A wonderful pair of miniature portraits of two young near identical twin boys, painted on organic material. Although it might often be a decent bet that any attractive English portraits of young children done in this time period were by William Egley (joking, sort of) I cannot, in good conscience, make that attribution, so the artist will, at least for now, remain unidentified.

Possibly Scottish, and in excellent condition, each portrait has a sight size of 1 7/8" by 1 1/2"...

Early landscape painting of a likely imaginary, idealized, pyramidal mountain peak of California, (doesn't really resemble Mt. Shasta, but I suppose it could be), 20" by 16" on the stretchers, painted on canvas, 25 3/4" by 21 3/4" in a fine old gold 19th century frame, signed at lower right by artist "C. A.
