Watercolor on paper river fantasy scene set in the tropics, 10 1/2" by 22" and 3" wide circa early 20th century frame in very good condition, signed at lower right "W W COWELL" and dated 18(last two digits not easily discernible, possibly "189_" or could be "1879"). This is one of the rare works of painter WILLIAM WILSON COWELL (1819-1898), primarily an east coast artist who also was known to paint in the Great Lakes area, and, late in life, in Nova Scotia, Canada...

The signature appears as "Bonary" or something similar. The painting was executed on paper, which has oxidized over the years, there being a definite browning now...

A beautiful miniature portrait of a young man, done by William Egley. The painting is in a stickpin mounted elaborate gold case, with engraving on the reverse identifying the sitter as "John McDonnell Webb/August 1839". A plait of hair is in the glazed rear aperture.
Both the painting and case are in excellent condition, with no issues. The spots in the photos are due to external dust...

Impressionist painting of harborside buildings, apparently American as original "$70.00" price on reverse appears adjacent to title "Fishing Village" and the 1965 date---although the subject appears more European. Work is on Masonite, and measures 18" by 22" as framed in white and black painted wood. That framing is scuffed and soiled, shows its age.
