Original antique watercolor floral botanical painting of a yellow flowering plant 19th century c.1850. This lovely original watercolor is from a mid 19th century botanical watercolor album. Although unsigned it was clearly done by a highly skilled artist. The paper is Whatman watermarked and dated. . Presented matted with archival materials and framed.

A simple yet satisfying little watercolor depicting central Paris along the river Seine, Notre Dame in the center distance. The work is signed at lower left by French mid century artist Fernand Guignier and dated there 1966. Guignier is listed, with some auction records, but there does not appear to be an extensive biography. Typical works are in watercolor medium and feature Montmartre and scenes around the Seine in the center of the "City of Light"...

20th Century American School 1900-1999 American Artists This is an original watercolor and gouache painting, artist unknown, most likely American circa 1930. The image of what appears to be a writer or Poet giving a talk in a park setting. The image measures 8 1/4X5 1/4 inches. Nicely framed with archival materials. This work, done on a blue toned paper is in very nice condition, clean and bright.

Watercolor on paper of a street in the French Quarter of New Orleans, I think Pirates Alley, 19" by 13" inside the mat and 28 1/2" by 22 1/2" as framed, signed discretely at lower left near the fence by the listed New Orleans artist TOM LANE (1916-1991). Lane was born in Toledo, Ohio but became a familiar figure in the French Quarter, painting in oil and watercolor the familiar and much-loved scenes frequented by tourists...

Oil on canvas, 19 1/2" by 25 1/2" (25 1/2" by 31 1/2" as framed)---(possibly an inner frame, the outer one long since separated), apparently unsigned, circa early 20th century, the subject the famous and unique twin Thatcher Island lighthouses (also known as Cape Ann Light Station), about one mile off the coast of Rockport, Massachusetts. The lighthouses were erected in 1861 as a pair, thereby aiding navigation by mariners. Each is 124 feet in height...

Qajar Miniature Watercolor of a Couple in a Palace. The watercolor is painted in oval and seems at one time had a fitted matt. The painting is in good condition . The painting has gold leaf and silver leaf paint on the horizontal terrace railing and bowl. Size of oval is 5" by 3.5" page 9.25" almost 6.75"

A work of Surrealism, 22" by 26", unframed, the imagery a strange landscape in blues, two bare trees at right center, and an odd shaped biomorphically-inspired form (part looks like an index finger complete with nail) at left foreground, completing the strange composition. The painting is signed at lower right by the artist; the first name is Bruce and the last name is difficult to make out, perhaps Hailey, Harley, Hurley or similar...

Oil or acrylic on canvas painting, measuring 30" square, unframed/unsigned, the subject a young woman, painted in the style of famous twentieth century artist Patrick Nagel (1945-1984). This is offered as a decorative "style of" work. The only information on the frame is the word "Mexico" (as in, origin of the frame I would imagine) and the number 30, the dimension. The painting is wrapped around the stretcher so that the edges are all therefore painted...

A very early black and white photo of the Sierra Nevada Mountains of eastern California, signed in the plate at lower right "A. A. Forbes Photo". This is a work of the noted early photographer of the region, ANDREW ALEXANDER FORBES (1862-1921). Forbes was born in Wisconsin, showing early interest in photography. By 1885 he was in Oklahoma, taking photos of the early territorial days there. Continuing ever west with his equipment, he was in Southern California by 1890...

Etching with color possibly hand-applied, 5 1/4" by 5 5/8" inside the inner gold fillet, 11 1/2" by 10 7/8" as framed, unsigned, by important French 20th century artist MARIE LAURENCIN (1885-1956). From having checked the 1981 catalog raisonne by Daniel Marchesseau, I have determined that the most official title of this work is "Fillette aux Yeux Vertes" ("Young Girl with Green Eyes", although a number of other titles are in common usage for this unusually popular print)...

(ONE OF TWO EXAMPLES BY THE ARTIST IN MY SHOP**), gouache on paper, (12 3/4" by 6 3/4"), and 1 1/2" wide frame, signed boldly at lower left by the well listed Italian artist GIOVANNI BATTISTA (1858-1925). This is a panoramic coastal scene, a common subject of the artist, who painted mostly scenes of Naples, Venice, the Amalfi coast, and Vesuvius. The painting is in excellent, fresh condition. Works by Battista are offered regularly at auction, where they can bring into the thousands.

A circa 1925 ORIGINAL PAINTING, not a print, with title "Oriental Antiques", no signature, but with old Massachusetts Normal Art School partial label on reverse, the piece measuring 22 3/4" by 16 3/4 in its original charming period blue and reddish-painted framing. The word "COELEBS" at bottom does not seem to pertain to anything. This may be a work by art students training in the use of watercolor and gouache. It was found in a Laguna Beach fine estate...

Contrasty, dramatic charcoal drawing of a figure who appears to be civil rights icon Martin Luther King, 23 1/2" by 17 3/4" inside the mat, 31" by 25" simply framed in wood behind thin Plexi, signed at lower left and dated there 1987 by American artist JESSICA ROCKWELL. Rockwell, a relative of Norman Rockwell, is a talented portraitist currently working out of Clearwater, Florida. The artist lived at one time in Southern California and that is likely why this rather early work was found here...
