A PAIR of oil on canvas paintings, one featuring a large sprig of small white flowers and leaves, the other larger one a vessel on a table filled with and surrounded by violets. Both are signed at lower right in red "L. F. Haftzger", and the larger one has "1899" written on the reverse side of the canvas. Measurements are 12" by 17" (18" by 22 1/4" in dark stained oak frame), the other 8" by 15 1/2" (12 3/4" by 20 1/2" framed). I do not see a listing for an artist of this name...

Watercolor on paper landscape typical of California, dirt tracks wandering through a sunny dry mountainous landscape, signed at lower left by listed California artist JOSEPH P. FREY (1892-1977). The work, measuring 6 3/4" by 9 3/4" inside the gold mat, and 14 3/4" by 17 3/4" in its old framing (no glass), probably is an earlier work of the artist, judging from the signature style...

A striking small size abstract painting, mixed media (I think gouache and some oil or acrylic), 10" by 20", signed at lower right and again on reverse backing "GEO. JUNG". I thought at first that this might be a "pen name" for George Chann, a well-known and important Chinese-American artist who created similar-looking works, but now from further research I believe this to be by a California contemporary artist, there being at least one work online similarly signed...

Oil on board Currier and Ives style winter landscape viewed from birds eye perspective, 18 1/2" by 24 1/2", 23" by 28 1/4" framed, unsigned, circa 1900, or possibly even earlier, painted in a primitive hand. The painting is charming and a definite folk art piece. Note the glowing windows of the inviting church on this winter day, there are two figures at left that look positively Dickensian, and the sled and figures show good detail...

I thought this at first a print, the detail is so life-like and convincing, but closer examination revealed that it is indeed an original drawn work on paper, measuring 9 1/2" by 7" (15" by 13" framed). The artist must have had tremendous patience, or lots of time on his or her hands, to have created each leaf and flower. The work probably dates to the 19th century...

This is a work which reflects the skills of not one, but two, highly talented European artists. A large original oil painting of 1894 by famed French painter HENRI TOULOUSE-LAUTREC (1864-1901) was titled "Au Salon de la Rue des Moulins"; it showed a brothel scene in Paris with the Madame and her eager charges...

Watercolor, 9 7/8" by 14" inside the mat (16 1/2" by 20 1/2" as framed), signed at lower right "N. White". This is a work showing, no doubt, the clipper ship Joseph Conrad, berthed at the Mystic Seaport in Connecticut. The clipper was built in Denmark in 1882 and was renamed as the Joseph Conrad. It was built strictly as a training ship. The artist, NELSON COOK WHITE (1900-1989) painted a lot of marine subject matter, and a number of these works have appeared at auction in New England...

This is a large and accomplished watercolor painting of a pedestrian-friendly, appealing street, (18" by 26 3/4", 24" by 44" framed) by the noted American watercolorist painter and much-loved art educator RUTH BADERIAN (1927-2010). From the names of the businesses in the scene, I was able to determine that the street scene is from Christiansted, St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands, in the Caribbean...
