Watercolor on paper of a small white painted house in a sparse landscape, the sheet measuring 15" by 22", signed at lower right with "N.W.S." (National Watercolor Society) by the listed California watercolor artist ROBERT UECKER (1929-2005). Uecker was born in Los Angeles and won a five year scholarship to the Chouinard Art Institute, where he was instructed by the likes of Rex Brandt, Ed Reep, and Pruett Carter...

Watercolor painting of a blue-eyed dark haired younger man with long sideburns, seated in a chair, circa 1860's, possibly a bit earlier, apparently unsigned, 9" by 6 1/2" (12 1/4" by 10 1/4" framed). The drawing shows some evidence of 150 years of age, with some light surface scratches in a few spots, a circular discoloration on the paper at left wall, and a little other foxing/discoloration. Found in Florida. I would lean towards the work being of American, rather than English, origin.

This is an etching by the important American artist JOHN SLOAN (1871-1951), titled "Dupont's Ride", on wove paper, in an edition of apparently 1,000 examples, published in Boston in 1902 by the Frederick Quinby Company. It is part of a series issued to illustrate the writings of French novelist Charles Paul deKock. Artist William Glackens did the primary work and then talented artists including Sloan, George Luks, Maurice Sterne and others were brought in to turn the images to etching...

A lithograph of the year 1953, pencil signed at lower right margin, by the noted 20th century American artist WILLIAM GROPPER (1897-1977). The work is presently unframed, housed inside a mat that lifts up (taped at top corners). Gropper, as the accompanying original Associated American Artists label describes, was born in New York and remained there. He studied under Robert Henri, George Bellows, and Giles...

Watercolor on paper, 12 1/2" by 18 1/4" inside the present mat, 19 1/2" by 26" as framed, signed "TOWNLEY" at lower right corner and dated there "Oct. 68". I do not see a listing that would match up with this name but the artist was obviously a talented individual. This appears to be a mountain landscape in one of the western states. The trees and the animals are beautifully executed, and there is a superb little ink drawing of a fox near the signature...

Pencil signed etching, 8 1/2" by 6 1/2" inside the mat, 15 1/4" by 12 1/4" as framed, titled at lower left "The Arts and Crafts Courtyard", (and edition number there given as "100"), the subject the famed and often painted Brulatour Courtyard in the French Quarter, by the well listed Arizona and southwestern painter and art educator GERRY PEIRCE (1900-1969). Peirce was born in upstate New York and educated at the Art Students League and the Cleveland School of Art...

This is an artist who is exibited by the U. S. Embassy in Cameroon. A great addition to someone's collection of black artists. This was painted in 1974.

A poetic landscape with tree and path on the bank of a small lake or large pond, signed at lower right "Zalich" or similar, 9 1/2" by 13" (15 1/2" by 18 3/4" framed), circa 1960. Condition is excellent, frame has a bit of wear consistent with age. The scene is simple but very calming.

A fine old etching of a windmill in a low country landscape, signed in pencil and in the plate with a signature that appears to be "J Harvey" or similar. The work is numbered 23/25 at lower right margin. The name being common, there are a number of listed artists that might correspond to this. The numbering suggests a 20th century origin, numbered prints being far less common in the 19th century...

A circa late twentieth century oil on board painting of steep desert mountains behind a lush golf course with palms, likely in the Coachella Valley of Southern California (Palm Springs and environs), 16" by 20", unframed and unsigned. The work is by a talented hand, though likely still an amateur hand. There are a few light surface abrasions and a small loss area in the sky as seen in the photos...

Oil on canvas painting of a landscape with trees, a lake and distant mountains, 11 3/4" by 15 3/4", unframed, signed at lower right "Ballon". The work is nicely painted and possibly of French origin. The age would be about circa 1960's/1970's. A standard 12" by 16" frame will make this wall-ready. The condition is excellent.

Small oil on canvas laid on board, 9" by 7" framed, unsigned, the view being an extensive hazy landscape with high snowy peaks in the distance, a spindly tree in the middle ground. I have searched without success for a signature. Likely dates before 1940 and more than likely by a listed artist. Light areas in immediate foreground are probably old losses, which have been in turn varnished over.

Watercolor on paper, unsigned, 15 1/2" by 11 3/4" and a 1/2" wide narrow modern frame, no glass, probably dating to circa 1950, the subject a fluted column 19th century style American framed mirror with flowers in a vase placed before it. This is a simple composition but the anonymous artist was obviously skilled in the use of watercolor and also had a sense of composition. There is a modernist touch, in the way the flowers are stuffed into the foreshortened space...

Oil on board painting of a peaceful lake surrounded by forest and peaks in the distance, 11" by 18" (16 1/4" by 23 1/2" in wood frame), unsigned, circa late 1940's to 1950 or so, but executed in an earlier style that goes back to the early years of the century. These freely executed impressionistic works met the demand for affordable original art in the first half of the 20th century, and many are still around, though they have suffered the ravages of time...
